The True Test

The true test begins next week and lasts for the next two quarters.

1. Browns - Classic Trap Game for the Jets
2. Pats - Its the Pats and its Foxborough
3. Dolphins - In Miami and they will be a tougher team
4. Falcons - Playoff Team
5. Bills - First place currently and they wooped us opening week
6. Bucs - Playoff Team & Doug Martin back with fresh legs
7. Panthers - Just beat the pats
8. Chiefs - Best team in NFL
9. Broncos - possibly 2nd best team

If we come out of this 7-6 or even with a 6-7 record I will be impressed. This is the gauntlet for the Jets. Even a 5-8 record will be impressive after these games.

I agree all i am looking for this year is growth but like the yanks if we do better it is on house money. I am having a Jets party for the NE (15th) game so a win this week makes that game really fun to watch.

Look, There's no reason to think we can't win many if not all of those games? That may sound crazy, but these last two games showed me a few things:

1) Now, more than ever, any team can beat any team on any given Sunday

2) The Jets are a better team than they have been getting credit for being.

3) All of the mistakes they have made thus far, excessive penalties, porous run defense, etc., these are all very fixable problems? It's the problem of probably the strongest area of the team. The DL is very talented and they should be able to correct these issues if they apply themselves.

So yes this is definitely a gauntlet of sorts. But it's a gauntlet where I don't believe the team has ever had such a clear view of what's in front of them and one that they should have every confidence they can win........

I agree with you MaineJet. With a caveat....

1. We need McCown and the wr's to play well.
2. We need mistake free football.
3. Even if we are perfect I dont see use beating KC or the Broncos. KC is a power house and Broncos Defense is way to experienced and strong for our offense to deal with they will make minse meat of our o-line.

Funny thing about some of us Jet fans we seem to get down very fast......We also get up very fast (Bipolar)......Lets just enjoy the ride but also see what happens. So if we say the Jets are a better team then we thought this may be true but some thought 0-16 lol..........I still don't know how good this team is. So this sample size of four games looks good but I need to see more. Anyway lets enjoy the ride!

I asked if the jets would win 3 games so if we win this week I am on house money lol

I say one week at a time

Agreed entirely butterscotch. This is why the next several games are the true test. If we lose - but we show up and play hard its still a win. The next 2 quarters are going to tell us a lot about this team.

Actually, the Jets face the Pats in the Meadowlands.

It is fun! But I think it is the way we are playing that is even more fun.........This is looking like it could be a very good football year in the NFL

Definitely. As always our strategy for winning is as follows:

1) The Jets must establish the running game. McCown simply isn't good enough to jump start a running game. The offense needs to be productive running the football. When that happens the defense will have committed 8 men to the box. That will make them vulnerable to play action.

2) The offense must play turnover free football. The Jets simply aren't good enough to overcome mistakes and turnovers. Not against top notch NFL teams.

3) The defense has generated a few turnovers over their winning streak and that has been key in the Jets winning. That must continue.

4) Special Teams needs to be the wild card factor in these games. An unexpected big play or TD will be the margin of victory in most of these games. Ardarius Stewart is returning kicks for them now and I'm convinced he'll have great plays for us if allowed to get started.

agree ....and I would add that the coaching continues to improve as well and we will have a shot in every game except maybe KC... they are lights out right now.

Yeah you're right. As much as I would like to be able to take good coaching for granted, you can't with Toilets staff. Young players at a disadvantage talent wise should not have to worry about bad coaching hamstringing them. But unfortunately the Jets always have that additional worry.

Yes and our punter needs to keep setting up long fields.

I was in on the tank job but winning is way too much fun and can't wait for the next few games.

I'm all in with you.... I wanted the tank. I had resigned myself to it. I didn't like the idea, but I knew there was nothing I could do to control it. That's what Woody and Mac decided the way I figure and therefore that's what I was faced with.

But now things are different. I'm not sure even Mac knew and Woody knew this team would win 2 games through only a quarter of the season? The playoffs are well within their grasp. Before you laugh, remember they are 2-2 through 4 games so despite how you think this season will work out they are very much in playoff contention as of this very moment.

They have surprised us, probably the CS,.... probably everyone. That's changed everyone's mindset. Now, they are thinking..."How far can this team go?"... "How can I get this rookie contributing faster?"... "What kind of strategy will work best for this team going forward?".

Whereas prior to this winning streak occurring it was, "How can this team win a game?"...or..."Who will give us the best chance to produce and get the running game going?"....

In other words, things have changed in a big way. But the biggest thing is that now the fans KNOW this team can win games and there really not sure how many games they are capable of winning? That might be the most charming part of this team? No one truly knows what they are capable of. What we do know is that right now EVERY player on this team is asses and elbows on every play. They are leaving every last bit of effort and determination out on the field. They are buying into what the CS is selling. They are total believers and they want to see this thing develop in every way possible. When a guy like Kony Ealy comes into the locker room and starts telling people that this team can win and he's wearing an NFC championship ring? When those players in that locker room know that Ealy had 3 sacks, 1 int, and a FF in SB 50. They also know that if the Panthers had won that SB, that Ealy would have won MVP honors. All these young guys, kids essentially are listening in good.

So now all I care about is winning. I don't give a flying fuck about losing games in an effort to get the number 1 pick. I figure it's already out of reach anyhow..........

I want them to play hard and show improvement, as players and as a team. If they do that, I don't care about the scoreboard.

Last year, too often they phoned it in. Not this year. This team may not be talented enough to beat everyone, but they have been playing very hard.

Even some of the experts have been giving some respect to the Jets. If they beat the Browns which I believe is really important for their confidence. They know they are the better team and should win this game. It will be a big boost going into the Pats game.
