If the Jets want to go O-line in RD 1, I think they should do what I have the Redskins doing here, try like heck to trade down and add another 2, because I don't believe any of the OL's are legit TOP 5 Picks in this draft and we can get guys like Scherff and La'el Collins etc. a little bit later. IMO if we stay put at #6 it will probably be for one of the edge rushers (Gregory, Ray or Fowler) or one of the WR's (Cooper, White or Parker), thats where the value is at #6 in my view, unless Mariota falls to 6 which is possible, then we might take the QB.

i'm not a college football guy but i did watch the championship game.. i understand it was my one game scouting report on mariota but the kid looked quite normal skill wise to me.. if i was not aware of who he is, i would not have guess i was watching the 1st or 2nd highest rated QB in college..

where was brick picked? How long has he been a jet........to draft a olineman that can start for your team and play at a high level for 10 plus seasons IMO is a value pick.

Brick was 4th or 5th, but he was generally rated higher than these guys. This is not a particularly strong O-line class and there is no real super blue-chipper at the top of the board like last year with Greg Robinson and Jake Mathhews. In recent years there has been at least one OT who looked like a TOP 5 lock, but this year I don't any OL people are raving about.

On the flip side, this is a terrific class for edge rushers.

Couple of Notes:

Patriots only get stronger in this draft. A ton of talent will be one the board when it is their turn to draft. Devin Smith is the type of guy that Tom Brady would fall in love with immediately.

The Jets can miss with this pick. This will be a huge test for Macc and Bowles and they can def fail it.

Disagree about the team with the 31 pick having stronger possibilities than the teams with the 1-30 picks.

Also Tammy will be 38 in August and even Belislug can't deflate that ticking clock

Also disagree about Chan Gailey being "The most indispensable offensive coordinator on Earth". If he is so wonderful, why has he been watching football in his basement for the past two years?

Otherwise, great blog

The problem is that the Patriots need very little so when their drafting it's less about need and more about the best player on the board and, lucky them there will be some very talented players to pick from, guys that they can plug into their offense/defense immediately.

I celebrate all of Toms Birthdays. They're my favorite.

What about Kevin White? Can you see us taking him? He seems to have big play ability.

I absolutely see White as a possibility for the Jets. Daniel Jeremiah actually had White going ahead of Amari Cooper in his first mock draft, and I have a ton of respect for Jeremiah. I think he has White going #4 to the Raiders, and Cooper falling to the Jets (but he has us passing on Cooper and taking Mariota). Anyway the point is, if Jeremiah has such high regard for Kevin White, then you have to consider him in play for the Jets at #6 .

I agree, and on the heels of last years debacle (and make no mistake about it, that disaster we called a draft got Idzik and Bradway fired), its absolutely essential that we hit a home-run with this pick. If we blow this pick, after essentially blowing the entire 2014 draft (all 12 Picks with the possible exception of Amaro), it will set this franchise back at least another year. Thats why I took Shane Ray here, because he's the guy I feel most sure about as an edge rusher, but nobody on the board is a sure thing.

I understand why you went defense, I did it myself, http://thegreenteam91.blogspot.com/2015/01/nfl-mock-draft.html

but it would be insane especially after all those years with Rex drafting defensive guys despite having one of the best defenses in the NFL. Whether it's O line or a skill position I think that the Macc era has to start with an offensive player especially with guys like Ferguson and Mangold getting older.

Ham - Pryor has been played out of position all year. If put in the right safety spot that fits his talent do you not see him living up to his potential or do you think he's a lost cause?

I think he can be a pretty good player, but pretty good is not good enough with a TOP 20 Pick (18) in what many tabbed one of the best and deepest draft classes in decades. I think there were much better players still on the board when we picked Pryor, for example Kelvin Benjamin whose a beast, but there are a lot more who had a much bigger impact on their teams this year and I don't expect that to change, thats why I view it as another missed opportunity even if Pryor becomes a pretty good player. He might not be a bust, but its still a bad pick in my view, relatively speaking.

GT, you said it in your first post, this is a pick we can easily blow and we CANNOT afford to blow this pick, thats why we do not have to luxury to draft for positions, we have to draft for value even if its not our most pressing need, and we sure as heck can't dismiss one entire side of the ball (defense) as an option just because we've drafted defense in recent years in RD 1, we cannot place that type of arbitrary limitation on ourselves with this pick, that would increase the likelihood that we blow the #6 overall pick and that CANNOT happen, that would be a disaster.

We have to hit a home-run with this pick, it has to be an IMPACT PLAYER, on offense or defense.
