I've only seen Darnold play a few times(small sample) and he looked okay at best. Something about USC QBs that scare the bejesus out of me.

But, Maccagnan has a plan. I wonder if that deal was offered to the Giants and they said no.
I'd rather it have been for the 2nd pick. The compensation would fit better.

Tall, best pure passer, superior intellect ala Pennington, lightning quick release ala Marino. Just the injury history scares me. Need to build that line in front of him.

Definitely overpaid. The value charts are a bit outdated, especially with draft slot salaries in the CBA, but it is an awful lot.
Someone here noted a few weeks ago that you can throw the value chart out the window when talking abut the quarterback position. (especially franchise quality)
I agree about the offensive line.
And I agree with the poster who reminded us that Mac was the guy who drafted Hack. That scares me.

The part that is so stupid is they did this so early. This should have been a draft day trade. Left the door open for someone like the Bills to jump them. Typical Jets.

Why? If they agreed to terms, why wait? Another QB-needy team could slide in and trade for the spot before draft day even starts.
Having the pick now gives them more leverage and certainty. They would never have gotten the pick for less on draft day.
The only benefit I see is that the Browns might have taken Barkley #1 if they had not known the Jets were at #3. Now they might go QB at #1 and try to get Barkley at #4.
For the top pick I could see it unless they have some deal with the Giants that they won’t trade out.

I've been having this discussion with someone on another board for months, and he's been insisting you can throw out the chart when it comes to QB's. When you are trading up for a QB, you will always overpay, by a lot, regardless of what the chart says. Thats been his contention all along. I thought he was overstating it with "by a lot", but I have to admit he was right.
If this works out and they get the QB they want, this is a great move. Still alittle worried about someone moving ahead of us for that #2 spot. Giants only have 6 picks and could use more draft picks. Curious what the Browns will do now. This pretty much forces them to pick a QB at #1 useless it doesn’t matter to them who’s left at #4. I appreciate the fact they are finally going for it and trying whatever they have to to get that HOPEFULLY, 15-20 franchise SB winning QB. I can’t even say who would be my preference between the four at this point, I just hope the Jets pick the right one!!!
Big mac has been great except for JM. This was a good move . As long as we can draft we will have a great off season

I agree we gave up a lot, but if we get a franchise QB, that is worth three 2nd rounders any day. If the Jets draft well, and they maneuver a bit on draft day, they can acquire additional picks in other rounds to add depth. The Jets must feel there is strength in the later rounds at positions of need, so that allowed them to make this move. I think the best part of this trade for us (beside the #3 pick) is that the Jets didn't have to give up next year's 1. So, yeah we gave up a lot, but all things considered, to hopefully get the guy we want, it was a very smart move.
The reason I'm not worried about that is because I'm already assuming the QB's are going 1 and 2 if the Browns and Giants stay put or not. So I already expect to have our choice of the two remaining TOP 4 QB's (Darnold, Rosen, Mayfield and Allen) regardless of whether or not the Giants keep the pick or trade it.
Ditto the Browns at #1
