Eric Decker would like to play with one of his old teammates, Demaryius Thomas, again.

Eric Decker has a former teammate on his offseason wish list.

The Jets wide receiver is friends with Broncos star wideout Demaryius Thomas, an impending free agent. Decker would love to play with Thomas again, even if he knows it’s a long shot for now.

“I’ve always been doing recruiting,” Decker said Friday. “For him, it’s a situation where he’s kind of waiting. If Denver’s going to franchise tag him or if they’re going to work out a long term deal... I’d love to have him suit up in a New York Jets uniform and be a teammate of mine. He’s one of the best receivers in this league and I always enjoyed, and it made it easier to play alongside someone like him.”

While the Jets could badly use a receiver of Thomas’ caliber, it’s unlikely that Denver would let him walk out the door, which Decker recognized.

“It’d be hard for John (Elway) to let him go because he is one of those franchise players in this league,” he said.

Decker spoke by phone on Friday, promoting a hidden camera stunt that he and Thomas did to surprise guests at a Courtyard Marriott as an advertisement for the hotel brand.

Even though Thomas is unlikely to join Decker in Florham Park, the Jets will likely be adding some parts in free agency thanks to the $40+ million in cap space they will have available to then. Decker said he expects the Jets to “make a few splashes probably.”

Decker said he has exchanged text messages with the new Jets head coach Todd Bowles and spoke to a couple of players, including receivers Larry Fitzgerald and Andre Roberts, about Bowles. Though the players Decker spoke to didn’t play under Bowles’ scheme because they were on offense, Decker said they spoke highly of the new Jets head coach from their interactions with him in the Cardinals building and on the practice field.

“He’s a good manager, to be a head coach you’ve got to be a good manager of a team,” Decker said. “I think he’ll do a great job.”

Decker said he hasn’t spoken with new offensive coordinator Chan Gailey but was familiar with the fact that Chiefs wide receiver Dwayne Bowe had a particularly productive season (86 catches) in 2008, when Gailey was the offensive coordinator there.

As for the Super Bowl, Decker said he’s hoping for a good game but doesn’t have a preference between the two teams.

“I’m not rooting for anyone. I just want a close game,” Decker said. “New England’s in our division, and Seattle they beat us last year in the Super Bowl.”

Demaryius Thomas would certainly be a nice addition. Don't see any way Denver lets him walk.

While Decker hopes, Jets fans pray.

Going to be tough getting him out of Denver with the franchise tag.

Big chip could fall real soon though depending what Peyton does. If Manning comes back I think they have to franchise him for one last run.

If Manning retires its possible they look to the future and try to save some cap as they rebuild. They did draft a WR last year to replace DT just in case.

I say DONT sign him. He is too expensive and there's just as good receivers that will be free agents. To me that's an Idzik move. Alot of people hear these big names mentioned and want to gun for them, while at the same time forgetting our real needs. Break the bank on a position we need, like a QB or CB. 2 positions we clearly lack in. In my opinion, he's an amazing player but would hurt our salary cap.

I'll be shocked if Denver doesn't tag D. Thomas, but its possible because they do have a bit of a dilemma, Julius Thomas is a TOP 3 PLAYMAKING TE in the league with Jimmy Graham and Gronk being the other two, and frankly I'd take him over Gronk because he doesn't have Gronk's injury history and his style of play gives him a chance to have a longer career. Those kinds of TE's don't grow on trees and they are impossible to defend, and he's a FA too, and Denver can't tag both guys. IMO this is not an easy call, but I suspect they will tag D. Thomas if they can't get either one re-signed prior to free agency. We'll see, but certainly if D. Thomas hits the open market the Jets have to make him their #1 priority.

Agreed. I don't see them getting rid of D Thomas and I don't see them renewing Julius Thomas' contract. But do we really need him? That's the question.

Would love Demaryius Thomas! Need a speedster type WR that can stay healthy. However I have a feeling that the Broncos will franchise him. Can always get a #1 WR in the draft such as White, Cooper, Parker, Strong etc.. and take a chance on them. The real person making the decision is Maccagnan, also depends on his asking price if he enters FA.

If the Jets were able to get Thomas in free agency, that would be a homerun, then we would not have to draft a WR until the later rounds, which means we could focus on other things.

If they do sign him it would take WR out of the first round for us. That is big considering right now we are very likely to take one.

would take a miracle in other words not happening.

It's a long shot, but not in the miracle category.

Few things here. Julius Thomas is also a FA. Pretty good player himself. Plus there is the Manning issue. If Manning retires does a young player want to start all over with an unknown QB?

Of course the Jets' don't exactly have a QB that would be an enticement for a young star WR to play with.

Either way it will cost plenty.
