When I saw

When I saw this, I thought you were about to tell us that Scout was merging with us :roflmao: It is really quite remarkable how the merger between JI and Scout has destroyed BOTH boards. What a miscalculation by Sooth!

It really is a shame. They did a bad job managing that process. It was just bad communication on their part. I can only speak on what happened on Sooth's side bc I was a member on JI and not Scout.

First, Sooth had us update emails but gave us bogus reason, second he said Scout wouldn't spam us but they did, then finally they took so long to transition into Scout that it enabled sites like this one and Ragus to be built.

I loved JI but they really screwed up. I hope Sooth got a nice payout bc if his $ is based off certain metrics like users and traffic he is not going to reach them.

imho...a draconian, "JI is better than you", "we do it our way or nothing" attitude from a large number of the first wave of posters. Smack and vulgar language became accepted practice almost instantly with a deluge of topics being opened all about the same discussion.....

It fast became un-readable

Just want to say thanks to MV for spinning up the FTL drive on that site of his so quickly, and then the nice transition to here. This place has potential, and there are some familiar screennames here (I used to go by vinluvr on Scout and another board or two back somewhere in the mists of time). Thanks for bringing the beer! Welcome again. This place can grow into something special. Love this user name. If we're missing any key features so let me, renegade and MV know. We'll get it up to par.

I have to jump in here Elias. It was much more than bad management. It was also outright lies that Sooth told. The membership of the Scout board peaked at around 600. That was easy to determine since that board keeps everyone logged in unless they actually press a logout button, which of course almost no one would do. Simply navigating away from the site kept you logged in. I called Sooth's bluff and said only about 3% of JI board members had migrated. He scoffed and said over 4000 members (which would have been 20%) had migrated. No question in my mind that was an outright lie. And the spamming from Scout was also there, showing up a couple weeks after the transition. It's too bad Sooth decided to kill his board for the cash. But thankfully there are boards like this one that are better than JI ever was to take up the slack.

Elias I know you asked somewhere if we had any other suggestions. I think it would be a good tweak if you could either change the font color or have clickable links underlined.

I'll look into it and see if it's possible. Right now it changes to a dark green but still hard to distinguish of its a link or not.

To be honest I am probably not even close to being as knowledgeable as you guys. I'm bad with analyzing football bc I think w my emotions rather than stats/truth. That's why I was more of a lurker than a poster at the old JI. Kind of missed out bc I do enjoy posting now. Lol.

Yea - have to prepare for it. We are going to get a few of those around here. But not for some time I believe. That's what boards are meant for though. Debating, as long as it's civil and no death threats then that's fine. Lol

Amazingly, Original JI posters and original Scout posters, all loyal Jet fans getting along and discussing the team without smack and without too many, if any SOJFS or Pats trolls.

Has Tapatalk and looks like the old JI.

Now that we actually have some scout members here, I'd love to hear their point of view on what they think went wrong.

i can only offer my view, but my guess is that it is shared by others here. as some of you may know, football51, SackExchange and myself were the long-time moderators on the scout board and this merger/takeover happened without any notification whatsoever to any of us. now granted we were all volunteers and not affiliated in any way with scout or its owners. we sort of were left on our own and had no contact with anyone from scout, pretty much for years.

suddenly, sooth appears on our board (initially as a "lurker") and tells us that JI will be merging with scout and the combined board will take over our former home. so this was a bit of a shock to us, who had all been there for many years. he tried to make it seen like it would be a friendly combination, but we had some skepticism. all of us had seen the old JI board, and it wasn't our way of doing things. we tried to avoid personal attacks, tried to keep things organized into similar topic threads, and tried to focus on the jets and football (instead of who can post the best pictures of half naked ladies and rip on each other). but we recognized JI had a big following so their style obviously appealed to many. i understood it is a business for those that run things, so i can see why scout would want more eyeballs on their site.

sooth at first seemed to extend a hand to us, saying we would all be welcome as mods on the new board and have a say in how things were run. but very quickly we learned that this wasn't exactly a genuine offer, as we saw on the old JI board how he was saying the opposite to members there and that JI would be running things.

we also saw pretty quickly our names and our board (granted a smaller board, but one with a loyal following) being trashed by many JI regulars, with some calling us a bunch of power hungry nazis (and those were the nice things they had to say). so one the one hand, sooth is telling us on the scout board things will be fine and we will have a say, while on the JI board, we were being belittled and trashed.

little by little, the JI regulars starting coming over to our old board, and pretty quickly we found that the community we established was no longer the same. it was turning into the swamp we feared it may become.

thankfully, MachinaVerde and some of the other guys quickly worked up a new board, and as you can see, many of our regulars made the switch, where we once again established the intelligent, passionate community we once had. many of the regulars from the old scout board made their way over there, and it looks like a bunch are starting to migrate here.

so hopefully this "merger" works out great and we can combine the best of both communities.
