Well, in this example, idzik skipped a meeting with Emmanual Sanders to personally scout Amaro at his pro day, and he never met with free agent DRC when we were directly in a feeding frenzy between us and the Giants that we ultimately lost because...he was personally scouting Pryor at his pro day.

So Idzik skipped free agent visits with Emmanuel Sanders and Rodgers-Cromartie so he could personally scout the players, so above politically analogy does not apply to idzik's selections...

I never said Idzik didn't scout players. I said Idzik relied on the evaluations of his scouting dept, which were a large part of the decision-making process on who to draft. Idzik couldn't be everywhere to evaluate players.

DRC was an average CB last year. And he got paid big money for average. You could call that a smart move on Idzik's part passing on him, regardless of how bad our CB's were. And I think it's VERY presumptuous to say that Emmanual Sanders would've even considered signing with the Jets. Let's see...Geno Smith or Peyton Manning?

If only Idzik had made more of an effort.:smiley-sleep027:

...but somehow Decker made that same decision to play with Geno...

You're right, most free agent WR's are just chomping at the bit to sign with a mediocre team that has an unstable QB position. And having a famous country singer wife who benefits from being close to the media exposure of NYC helps, too.

...ummm, seems like a trend:

In 2011 - When Sidney Rice was the biggest free agent he signed with...a mediocre team with an unstable QB situation.
In 2012 - When Vincent Jackson was the biggest free agent he signed with...a mediocre team with an unstable QB situation.
In 2013 - When Mike Wallace was the biggest free agent he signed with...a mediocre team with an unstable QB situation.
In 2013 - When Greg Jennings was a big free agent he signed with...a mediocre team with an unstable QB situation.
In 2014 - When Eric Decker was the biggest free agent he signed with...a mediocre team with an unstable QB situation.

Actually, unless they resign with their current club, most big time free agent WRs seem to...sign with a mediocre team with an unstable QB situation...it's actually rare it goes the other way, where they sign with a big time QB because the big time QB is taking all of the cap space. It's more likely a big time WR signs into an unstable QB situation than a stable one...

When Vincent Jackson signed with TB, they had a young ascending QB by the name of Josh Freeman who set records in TD passes (27) and passing yards (4,065) for a Bucs QB. They also had the number one rated defense against the run and RB Doug Martin running for almost 1,500 yards. Now obviously, Freeman didn't work out there. But at the time, the Bucs were an up-and-coming team with an up-and-coming QB. Context is needed here.

And the same could be said for Tannehill and the Dolphins. Many believed at the time (and some still do) that Tannehill is the answer there. This latest contract offer would hardly describe Tannehill as being "an unstable QB" situation. They've been high on him from day one. And the Dolphins defense was nothing to sniff at, either. Miami was an attractive destination for a player like Wallace.

I'll give you Rice and Jennings, though.

Last year's WR situation is much like this year's Cb situation...or last year's CB situation I guess you could say.

We needed a big time FA WR and a young WR, because our team lacked depth at WR. (we signed Decker and drafted Evans, Saunders, and Q).

The same could be said about CB. We signed Peterson and drafted McDougles (holy crap, bad).

Obviously, not well executed plan of action and now we still need...CB and WR help (strange to say since last year we had $50 mill and 12 picks to fix the issue, this year not the picks but we do have the money...again)...

Hopefully we sign and draft a CB again and try taking a flyer on a WR in the draft that can play...if we cut Harvin, we need to sign and draft a WR too. I think the point of the post is this should have been addressed better last year, we can likely agree on that, since WR was an easier position to fix in 2014 than 2015 based on the stockpile of WR talent in the draft. I think it's too bad we didnt land 1 stud WR in last year's draft (Q, prove me wrong, because I dont believe in stone hands Evans).

sanders visited with the chiefs, niners, jags and bucs before signing with the broncos. are we really so sure that if only idzik was in the building that he would have signed with the jets? sanders already backed out of a deal with the chiefs to go to the broncos. are we so sure he would have backed out of that deal to team with geno smith?

upon signing with denver he had the following to say:

http://www.denverpost.com/broncos/ci_25355128/emmanuel-sanders-broncos-new-deal

"To play with Peyton Manning is like wide receiver heaven," Sanders said. "I know that he's going to make me a better player, whether it's mentally or physically. I know I'm in a great environment."

do you really think he wanted to sign with the jets and play with geno smith, and would have if not for idzik being on a scouting trip???

Who said he would have signed with us? We told his agent we didnt even want to meet him because we were at Texas tech pro day... We declined to even try. Who knows who he would have signed with...its not like we didnt have the funds to offer more...

...and the quote is useless. if Decker resigned with Denver, im sure the same quote would have been read...but he didn't resign with Denver...and we were in the building to meet with him.

Josh Freeman WOW. I really liked Freeman when he came out. His rookie year he looked like he was going to be a franchise QB.

He had two other good years mixed with some bad ones. Then at the end he just melted down. Think he had some kind of emotional breakdown or something.

Don't even think he's in the NFL right now. Very unusual for a guy that showed his upside

Yup! I really wanted the Jets to draft Freeman instead of Sanchez. Guess it would have been a bad choice either way. I really thought Freeman was going to be a very good QB at the least with his first three years performance but he did fall off drastically fast.

No, it's more like bringing the exaggerations about Idzik's culpability down a notch or two.
i'm happy this debate is happening without idzik being our GM anymore.. sometimes things are as simple as they appear..

the jets desperately needed to find help at WR in last year's draft.. idzik had 12 picks to find a WR/WRs in what many believed was the best WR draft ever.. he found none.. that's inexcusable & that alone is a fireable offense..

not interested in hearing about the 4th rounder they placed on IR, or him listening to the wrong people either.. tough luck..

i believe one of two things will happen going forward.. if the jets did him dirty i believe he'll get another chance to be someone else's GM somewhere done the line.. or other organizations won't subscribe to that line of thinking & he never gets another sniff ever again..

IMO, if Tannenbaum can get hired by the Flippers, anything can happen. Actually Idzik had years as a football scout, Tanny was strickly a #'s guy until the Big Tuna gave him a crash course. I still don't know who's handling the cap/finances for the Jets ? Macc is on the football side ?

Go Jets....Cyborg

The ONLY source reporting that the Jets cancelled a meeting with Sanders was Manish Mehta. One thing Idzik wasn't was erratic. If there was an actual meeting, he wouldn't schedule it on the day he was going to be at Texas Tech. Right or wrong, I don't beieve the team was interested in Sanders. His agent(like many agents) use Mehta to plant stories to drum up interest in his client. Also, he was there for the DRC meeting. I'm not sure where this nonsense has come from that he wasn't. The issue was that we would only offer a one year deal. Denver would only offer him a one year deal as well(it was a six year contract offer that could be voided after one year with no negative cap impact on Denver). The Giants were the only team to offer him multiple years with a larger guarantee. DRC threatened to retire a month before free agency, so had no issue only offering a one year deal. And, no, this is not an excuse for Idzik. It's just facts. I had no problem with his termination even though I believed two years was too soon to form a definitive opinion on him and IMO, he was saddled with a poor HC(and overall staff).
