Harvin rumors

Cooper could be the next Reggie Wayne or the next Peter Warrick. White could be the next Andre Johnson or the next Kenny Britt. But I guess you already know they're both studs. I apologize that my crystal is offline.

We're friends, use mine :).

The Jets will draft a WR by round 3 if Mariota is our 1st, If Mariota and Winston are gone they will draft Cooper. Which either way will solve the problem, they might even bring in a moderate priced free agent.

Put that thing away. I glanced at it and all I saw was HYATT wearing nothing but his Favre jersey. I won't be able to hold food down for a week now. Thanks.

Aww... Man... you had to put that in our heads!:hopelessness:

I've watched them both play in college a considerable number of times and, based on that, feel they will both be NFL first caliber receivers

Actually the guy I think best fits your Warrick/Britt mold is Harvin who has already underachieved for three NFL teams and who is clearly not worth the massive amount it would cost to keep him around returning kicks next season

If Cooper, Winston and Mariota are gone before 6, I'd try and trade down to somewhere in the 9 to 11 slot and get an extra 2. And take Kevin.White in the spot he should probably be

Green-Beckham could very well be on the board in the second

If those three are gone, who's trading into the 6?

Not a court of law, it's a business with $10,500,000 at stake. He has proven in the past he is not a pleasant character.

You're absolutely right but I wonder what they see out there in FA as many of the top WR's are likely going to be franchised. On top of that, Cooper is likely to be gone and now you're in a position of reaching for Parker or White at #6 . That's something I'm not comfortable about having watched these guys on film. I think they're both borderline1st/2nd round prospects with neither showing much route running savvy. Great athletes and they tend to win a lot of jump balls but that's an ominous sign going into the pros. Who does anyone see the Jets getting in FA at WR? Anyone? Nicks?! Royal?! Torrey Smith?! It's a terrible FA for WR's. Maybe the worst ever.

As much as I hate to say it (and want to keep our high 4th), they may need to hold on to Harvin for another year and wait for Damaryius Thomas to play out his franchise tag and come to NY next year. This has to be considered a 2-year build anyway - does anyone think all positions will be nailed down this year?

No, it's not likely that the Jets will be a fixed team in 2015. There are too many upgrades needed, and too much uncertainty at QB. Even if we draft Mariota, I think it's widely agreed that he'll take a little time to adjust to the NFL.

I see 2015 as getting half to most of our problems fixed, ideally anyway. Outside of the QB position, I view our glaring needs as another WR (pending the Harvin decision), more interior O-linemen, a pass rushing OLB, 1-2 young and proven CB's, and maybe even another safety depending on what Bowles thinks of Jarrett and Landry.

It's not likely that Demaryius Thomas is coming here, despite reports of the Jets "rolling out the red carpet" for him if he's miraculously not tagged or extended. Dez Bryant won't be coming here, either. Dallas will lock him up. I think Cobb is more of a #2 WR, but I wouldn't throw a fit if we brought him in. After that, there's really nothing out there more than some decent #2 's and #3 's in FA. I'd be alright with the team looking at White or Parker in a move down situation into the late first. I don't think either will make it into the 2nd round. And Cooper will most certainly go to Oak or Wash ahead of us.

I do think Thomas is a Jet if he hits FA. I don't see that many teams that have the dire need at WR and also have the money outside of Cleveland, Oakland and the Jets. And he's not going to that grease fire in Cleveland. Decker is a best friend of his - I think that would tip the scales. But probably moot talk as he'll likely be tagged.
I don't see Washington with DeSean Jackson, Andre Roberts and Pierre Garcon selecting a WR. They have many other needs.

Good post

I'm not so sure White, and Parker are reaches at 6. Particularly White. Lets see how they run at the combine. Cooper is a very good WR, but he's not Jerry Rice. IMO, if White runs well, he could be taken before Cooper.

As far as Harvin goes, he's not a true #1 WR, and is not going to solve the need for one. If the Jets were in the luxury position that maybe , one explosive player could put them over the top, and make them a true Super Bowl contender, I'd be more then happy to pay Harvin. We know the Jets are not in that position.

I really don't want to, but if the Jets just pay him the $10,500,000, surrender the 4th, I guess I could live with it. I'm more concerned about the 4th then the non guaranteed money. The Jets only have 6 draft picks this year, and a lot of needs. There will be good players there this year in the 4th. Sure wish we had the 12 that were wasted last year.

The one thing I wouldn't do is give Harvin any new guaranteed money. Really not in the mood to relive the Tone Holmes situation, for an overpaid gadget player who can't stay healthy. IMO that's exactly what will happen. Once he gets his money guaranteed the drama will start. He'll find a way to shoot his way out of town, and look for more guaranteed money. Certainly can't prove that will happen at this point, but his past history strongly indicates it will. As it did with Holmes.

We'll see at the combine if those guys elevate towards top 10 discussion. I'm not yet sold.
I wouldn't label Harvin a #1 but I don't see any available in FA (that won't be franchised) and would hate to reach on those aforementioned.

As for the picks, 8 of the 12 remain from last year's draft. I'm not convinced having the high 4th is the end-all, be-all point of discussion or that last year's draft should impact our decisions today. One has to balance the fielding of a competitive team next year without mortgaging the future or not making quality picks. That's my apprehension towards White/Parker. Keep in mind we can get out of Harvin's contract at any time.
At this moment, I would go pass rusher (preferably Fowler, if he's there) with that pick at #6 and go WR in the 2nd. Much better value and the talent is better at the top for pass rushers although I absolutely love Odighizuwa who could go in the 2nd.

I urge you and others to watch their film on www.nfldraftbreakdown.com as it should give you a feel for what they bring. Maybe you and others will come away more impressed than I was. I think there are guys in the 2nd round that look very close to what they (White/Parker) offer. Maybe I'm wrong.
