We ARE Coming!!!

New article by Matt Werblin. Let us know what you think.

As this season of futility winds down Jets fans, there is always next year. A term we use more often than we should. As we have a tendency of not handling the draft well, I would love to hear what you all think in terms of which direction the franchise should head in. Throughout the offseason, I will be providing all of you with a little insight into what prospects are in the draft and how the performed in their college careers.

Before we get to that point, I am going to give my two cents about the NFL draft and what our New York Jets should do. I know with the recent struggles at QB and all the hoopla of Winston and Mariota, I would stay away. Winston is not a first round pick. With his performance against the Gators a good defense in the SEC and throwing 4 INTS. I’m hesitant. This isn’t factoring the character issues. In this day and age of the NFL where teams are under the microscope about how the players handle themselves it is a risky pick. Yes, Winston is a gutsy player and has a nice college resume but I’m not buying it.

The same is true with Marcus Mariota. Impressive college career, I’m just not seeing both of these guys translate to the NFL. With the QB position being vital to a team’s success, it is a pick that you can’t miss and I am not mortgaging the next 3 plus years with this draft of QB’s. This comes down to who we want to draft and what positions are vital for us. With the season we had most likely we will be in the top ten. It is still early but I am going out on a limb here.

If I was given the keys to this year’s draft, I know what game plan I am sticking to. With the first pick I know it seems like we have depth there but I would take Amari Cooper. I think he is going to be dynamic in the NFL as he has torched numerous teams this whole season and would alleviate the passing game with Decker/Harvin. I know it seems as if we have WR’s, I just feel that this would strengthen the game.

As for the second round, I know he is coming off ACL surgery but I would take Todd Gurley. The injury will probably drop his stock allowing teams with a high draft pick aka The Jets to snag this first round talent. Between those two picks you have a nice core to the offense especially with the players we have to compliment them. I know we don’t have a QB but the answer is not in this draft and it is
not worth reaching at that position. We have seen this twice now with the Sanchize and Geno.

This draft does not have a dominant corner and I think we should build the D with the remaining selections.

Would love to hear your all thoughts and would be more than happy to discuss this in more depth until May.

well for one it is all going to depend on the coach, but you don't let a guy like mariotta get away. Second what good is cooper if you have no oline or QB to get him the ball?

The oline is not in complete shambles. I just don't think you pass up on Cooper's talent and I don't think Mariota is a sure thing. I know you need someone to throw him the ball but you can have a stop gap for a year or two. Hoipefully, the new coach has a thing for wideouts :)
