Well, Bowles pulls lbs out for db's(safeties) and plays dime more than any other coach in the league. So, if Thompson were to be considered more of a safety by some, he would be an asset in Bowles' defense.
Tebow was a gimmick whose game wasn't expected to translate to the pros. I've yet to see anyone question whether Thompson can contribute at this level. I don't think he's worth more than 3.5 mill. I don't think any team would trade for him. He's dependably vanilla. I don't care if he stays or goes, but if Bowles is pushing the envelope and creating a new defense to battle Brady coples has no value in defending the pass, beyond pass rush.
And remember, if you move to far to a speed defense, you are very vulnerable to injuries. Being forced to play inexperienced or slower backups shortens your playoff run potential. It also hurts you against the run, a reason under Rex we were always good against the run is because we had physical linebackers. With guys like Marshawn lynch and blount defending the Lombardi trophy, Brady will just kill you with the short game. Play action and gronk. The scheme is above my pay grade.
