If Mariota falls to 6, & Eagles offer their 1st, plus their 1st in 2016 and Nick Foles, wouldn't that make sense for Jets? @RichCimini: It would be an absolute steal for the Jets, but I doubt the Eagles would part with their quarterback and a future No. 1 pick. You raise a good point, though, because I think the Jets should consider trading back if they're not sold on Marcus Mariota. They have many needs and Mariota isn't a sure thing. If they can parlay the pick into a veteran starting quarterback and a premium draft choice, it would be a no-brainer, in my opinion.

1:37 PM - 13 Feb 2015

@RichCimini: Neither. Ryan likes Big Snacks, no doubt about it, but the Buffalo Bills are loaded on the defensive line, especially the interior. Ryan has Marcell Dareus (signed through 2015) and Kyle Williams (2016), so it would make no sense to pay big money and surrender a draft choice to a division rival. Remember, Damon Harrison is a restricted free agent, so he figures to land the first- or second-round tender. My sense is the Jets will use the first-round tender (at least $3.1 million) and make him play 2015 for that amount before committing long term.

@RichCimini how many corners do you see the Jets going after in free agency? Maybe Revis, Cro, and another younger CB? #JetsMail

@RichCimini: More than last year, but, of course, that's not saying much. As you know, Darrelle Revis isn't a free agent. The New England Patriots have until March 9 to renegotiate or exercise a $20 million option year (ain't happening). My hunch is that he'll remain in New England, but I could definitely see the Jets making a play if he hits the open market. A more realistic possibility is Antonio Cromartie. He's not a spring chicken anymore, but he knows Todd Bowles' system and he knows the New York landscape. They also need to find a slot corner to replace Kyle Wilson, a free agent who probably won't be back. Bowles played more dime packages than every team in the league last season in Arizona, so secondary depth is vital.

@RichCimini What are the chances of us drafting Mariota, getting Demaryius, and keeping Harvin to have high powered offense? #JetsMail

2:54 PM - 13 Feb 2015

@RichCimini: Keep dreaming. First of all, I don't think Mariota is a slam-dunk pick for the Jets. Secondly, there's no way the Denver Broncos will let Demaryius Thomas hit the open market. If they can't negotiate a deal before the start of free agency, they'll slap him with the franchise tag. As for Percy Harvin, his future with the Jets is up in the air. They have to make a $10.5 million decision by March 19. Sorry to be a wet blanket, but I'm keeping it real.

@RichCimin rank your top 5 Jets free agent needs? And 5 potential free agents, the Jets should target? #JetsMail

@RichCimini: ,OK, that's easy: Cornerback, quarterback, wide receiver, guard and middle linebacker (if David Harris leaves). The free agents to watch are Cromartie, Kareem Jackson, Ryan Mallett, Michael Crabtree and Mike Iupati.

I'm very concerned. I actually agree with all of Cimini's answers. :)

Every once in a while, Cimini checks his snarky at the front door and actually makes sense.

I agree with everything he said except in the "needs" area where he said ILB. Switch that to OLB. Pace and Babin need to go due to age and deteriorating skills, and Coples is still a mystery at that position. IK may be a long term solution, but the position still needs another body.

Iupati scares me a little. He's declining as a pass protector, and he's already going to be 28. The 49er's have been good about resigning their homegrown talent and chose not to extend him(same with Crabtree). I'm not sure I'd want the Jets to give him the crazy deal it would take to get him here. Faneca fell off quickly after we brought him in(pass protection) and like the 49er's, the Steelers were reluctant to bring him back.

Actually Cimini has toned his rhetoric down since he has been with ESPN. He's still snarky, but is less likely to make the "unknown sources" negative quotes. He's left that to his old portage at the NYDN Manish Mehta.

I think it is NYDN editorial policy every one of their Jets beat writers seem to hate the Jets with a passion. Weird stuff for beat writers. Almost every where else in the NFL the beat writers tend to lean a bit to the homer side. With the exception of Kristian Dyer, yahoo I think, NY Jets beat writers like to rip up the Jets.

BTW Elias you might have one of your 100's of staff members contact Dyer for an interview. He has given several to JN, and they are always entertaining.

We talked about this in the old forum. Many agreed that Mehta has no business covering the Jets. His beef with Idzik was taken to mind-boggling proportions with constant finger-pointing, and an obvious hatred of the man. Rumor was that Idzik blew him off on several occasions after Mehta asked dumb questions during pressers. It would certainly explain Mehta's unprofessionalism and personal agenda.

Think Idzik only gave 2 pressers. That was one of the reasons the press didn't like him. Your right, as much as I disliked Idzik, and wanted him gone, Mehta was way over the top with the way he acted.

More then that I think it is just a NY kind of thing. The beat writers trying to out do one another for a big story out of nothing. Idzik wasn't the only one that Mehta rips to pieces, some for no apparent reason.

Seems to be working though, on South Florida radio stations that want an interview with a "Jets Insider", if they aren't affiliated with ESPN, they go to Mehta. If they are in the ESPN web, they go to Cimini

Thnx. I think that's next on our list -- to start getting our front page on point. i think it needs help. Machina's idea about getting contributions from you guys is a good start. I actually contacted the Jets about getting credentials and what not but right now I need to figure out how to make that happen. They were not very helpful.

We need to think of ideas to differentiate this forum from the rest of them so that's what I'm trying to do. I know there isn't much that we can do but any little diff can be key. One idea I had is, once we get these credentials to give it to our users for that specific game/event (e.g. Combine) but I don't think that's possible. I'll look at everything.

We want to eventually do a podcast also but we need to upgrade he home page first. Agh this post is a little bit behind the scenes but I've been fighting with a web developer, piece of shit, who has taken my money and has done nothing that I asked for, hence, why the site looks the same from day one despite my posts about changes are coming lol.

We will improve the graphics on here and hopefully soon.

Personally I think the site looks great, but if you paid for something your not getting, kick ass.

It's really an up hill battle getting credentials. I wish ya luck with that. Sooth got them back in the day when he was the only game in town. Not to mention the Jets want to monitor your content. Negative posts, and they pull them.

Yea - we'll weigh the pros and cons like in anything we do. Right now, first priority is the forum!

I don't agree with Rich's rationale as to why the Philly trade isn't viable. Why wouldn't they part with a future low 1st rounder (as they would be confident in)? If it's for a QB that runs his system, why wouldn't they value him as such? And Rich is wrong about their hesitancy to part with their QB - they don't even like Foles.

I firmly believe this trade can happen and the Jets can be in the best position for this. I don't se a blockbuster trade with a division rival in Washington. And they have a bargaining chip in Foles that the Redskins nor Raiders would be interested in.

I agree with him that Demaryius Thomas is very unlikely to see FA.

If Philly is going to trade up for Mariota, it will be before the Jets. It would be stupid to wait till a very needy QB team is on the board to try to trade. It would be the Jets they would be afraid of taking him.

Valid point. This would drive the price up but if Philly loved him, the Jets didn't and preferred Foles and compensation, then you'd have something. They could still strike a deal. And such a big trade with a division rival is rare (Redskins). And moving up to the top 4 somewhere would cost a ton without dangling Foles. Probably this is steering Kelly to the alternative of getting Locker and this talk will end.

I understand what your saying, but it seems to me that if the rumors are true about the Birds wanting to give up the farm for Mariota, it would be a lot more prudent to go up to 4. The Raiders have Carr, and probably would jump at the prospect.

IMO if the Birds wait till 6 the Jets will say No Thanks, Smith sucks , and Gailey thinks he can make Mariota a star. Bye, stop by some other time.

Unless they're in love with Cooper and want to stay. I don't know if they jump at it. And it would cost the Eagles more in picks to make that trade without including Foles and that it's #4 . But yeah, the thinking must assume that the QB-needy Jets need to be leaped over. If Kelly is so hot for him, they will talk if the Jets are on the clock at #6 with Mariota on the board. And the Jets will hold all the leverage and make the decision at that moment. Less than 15 minutes to decide going with this guy or taking the package of picks and Foles.
But believe me, that would be the moment of truth since the Bears at #7 would not pass him over IMO.
