Free agent QB Josh McCown and the Bills are trying to work out a deal Monday.
New coach Rex Ryan isn't going to go into the season with only E.J. Manuel and Jeff Tuel in his quarterback room. Although McCown's breakout 2013 season was an obvious Marc Trestman-induced fluke, he's still our No. 3 free agent QB available in a typically weak class. The Bills are also lacking a first-round pick as a result of last year's Sammy Watkins trade. So it looks like they'll settle for the 35-year-old McCown, who went 1-10 for the Bucs last year while posting an 11:14 TD-to-INT ratio.

He was cut so I think it's different and free to sign. In either case, I am okay with McCown in Buffalo. They aren't going to win too many games with him in that wind.

He did pretty well in the 'Windy City', but with a coach who understood offense.

lets get Spiller out of there, because Watkins, Woods, Goodwin, and jackson isn't chopped liver...Spiller is a nice back to have as a weapon also. With the rumor CJ2k is gone, adding Spiller becomes a must for us, IMO.

Josh McCown leaves Buffalo without a contract

The Bills and Josh McCown were going to reach an agreement on a contract today, unless they didn’t.

And they didn’t.

McCown visited Buffalo but left without a contract, Bills insider Vic Carucci said on today’s PFT Live.

The Bills want to add at least one veteran quarterback after the retirement of Kyle Orton, who finished last season as the starter. Former first-round pick EJ Manuel is still on the roster, but it doesn’t appear that the Bills’ brass has a lot of confidence in him as the franchise quarterback.

It’s still possible that McCown could come to terms with the Bills, but he’s going to take his time, and nothing is expected to happen in Buffalo this week. If the Bills choose to wait until free agency starts next month to find a quarterback, an intriguing option could be Mark Sanchez, who played for Bills coach Rex Ryan when they were both with the Jets.

So with quarterback Josh McCown visiting the Bills on Monday and leaving without talking numbers, what’s next for McCown?

While the specific identity of other teams isn’t yet known, here’s what is. Per a league source, McCown will meet with a team in Indianapolis at the Scouting Combine. He then may meet with other teams at their facilities, after the Scouting Combine ends. There’s a chance something will happen in the interim that causes him to agree to terms, with the Bills or another interested team.

So why would he meet with one team in Indy and the others ideally at their facilities? Maybe the team he’ll meet with in Indy is a team whose facilities he’s familiar with. Like, say, the Bears.

Not that our QB situation has our OC smiling heading into the offseason...

Tiny difference IMO is we have the 6 pick in round one with a possible shot at the Duck.

They have NO first round pick, having spent it for Watkins
