Do you wanthim back or time to get younger and more athletic?

Seems jets are starting talks.

David Harris - LB - Jets
The Jets will meet with free agent ILB David Harris' agent at the NFL Scouting Combine this week.
Harris, 31, is the Jets' field general and hasn't missed a game since 2008. He's registered at least 123 tackles in three consecutive seasons and has 30 career sacks. Harris is easily the Jets' top in-house free agent, but it's fair to wonder if he may want to follow coach Rex Ryan to Buffalo. He won't break the bank.

i'm biased, but i'd want him back. obviously it would have to be at the right price, as he's an older, declining player, and he won't be a 3-down player in bowles' scheme.

I think I would "like" him back, but wouldnt be devastated if he left. It would be nice to have him retire a Jet like Mo Lewis.

Thought he regressed and was a bit over hyped from the start. Unless the price is extremely friendly, I think it's time to move on......

Back definitely but it has to be a fair deal that isn't to long. I see a 3 year deal with up front money so he is easily cut in the 3rd year.

If not who the hell replaces him?

I'm disappointed to hear this interest. I'd like to get better coverage out of that position but maybe he's cheap enough to be a 2-down guy.

I'm ready for a team overall @ LB. They are too old and slow. I'm not excited to bring back Babin or Pace either. Time for more speed & youth @ LB.
1) Babin - At 34 he's done, plus his penalties could have cost us several games.
2) Bellore - He's OK on ST but not as a starter.
3) Coples - He needs to be on our DL not OLB.
4) Davis - He's only 25 and he's a keeper.
5) Harris - Let the Bills over pay for a 31 MLB.
6) Pace - He's 33 and on the down side of his career.
7) Reilly - I like this 26 year old rookie.
8) Cunningham - I assume he is done ?
9) Harvey - 27 year old P.S. player who is 6'/264.
10) Young - P.S. rookie ?

It does'nt matter if we play 3-4, 4-3 or 4-2, we desperately need an infusion @ LB. I would not be shocked to see us pick Fowler OLB @ #6 ? I wanted Houston from the Chiefs but it appears they are going to hit him with the franchise tag. We need help @ LB.

Go Jets...Cyborg

I wouldn't be a fan of anything more than a two year deal with zero guarantees in year two.

perhaps a bit of sentimentality?? or are folks OK with resigning harris with a deal that favors the jets??

for me, it's a bit of sentimentality. but that extends to his college days, as i'm a partisan michigan homer, as well as wanting to keep a solid, long-time jet in green.

of course, it is all about the contract. he can still play in the league, but he is a declining player. so i wouldn't overpay him, nor give a ton in guarantees that can cause an adverse cap hit if he needs to be cut in a year or two. and even if we retain him, that doesn't mean we shouldn't look for younger, more athletic LBs.

i don't think there's anyway we don't get younger & more athletic at LB this off season.. we desperately need LBers that can play in space..

Not a fan of change just because............................

If the Jets produce someone better, fine, then move on. For this year there is no reason that Harris shouldn't be a Jet. That is unless the Bills are going to pay him like he's26. Doubt it

Harris stays at least one more year, probably 2

While Harris was by far the better Michigan LB than Hobson54's namesake, his time has largely passed. He's still potentially useful as a role player, but he simply cannot chase these TEs and slot receivers across the middle--he looks like me, hailing a cab (in futility) in the rain! Whether we retain him or not, whether we go 4-3 or 3-4, we have to get younger and faster at MLB. Davis was a good add. We need another like him. I think Cy might be right: we could take OLB Fowler at 6 and then go MLB in the 3rd/4th.

Idzik actually drafted Harris' replacement last year, but didn't create a roster spot for him, and the Jags grabbed Jeremiah George when we cut him.

D'oh!

Bart scott was 27-28 when he came to the Jets. Prime. Think he's only 34 now

Harris remains one of the surer tacklers in the NFL. His issue is getting there.

Or replace him thru FA. Soon-to-be-ex Cowboys Rolando McClain and Bruce Carter are options.

I agree, better pursuit and speed with better coverage could really be used there. The front line is so dominant, what need is there for a run-stuffing, immobile ILB?

I agree with Cy's post above that we really need to overhaul our LB position. There's a reason we are not good at defending the pass and it's not just our DB's. Our linebackers are slow (other than Davis) and leave many uncovered gaps in that intermediate passing zone. It's an easy situation for an opposing teams to exploit. If I knew we were also replacing Coples and Pace I would be OK with Harris on the cheap. But not sure that's part of the master plan.

Don't care one way or the other. He is not a piece for a SB run so he is basically a run stopping LB and thats it. Being a mentor to younger guys would be his best asset at this point.
