I agree with Cy's post above that we really need to overhaul our LB position. There's a reason we are not good at defending the pass and it's not just our DB's. Our linebackers are slow (other than Davis) and leave many uncovered gaps in that intermediate passing zone. It's an easy situation for an opposing teams to exploit. If I knew we were also replacing Coples and Pace I would be OK with Harris on the cheap. But not sure that's part of the master plan.

how many of your buddies still haven't made there way over here??

no idea. we seen to have gotten a good number of the regular former scout posters who made it over to the board MV started up when people started bailing on scout after the JI "merger". but there were plenty who never made it to that board, or did so infrequently. i know just before MV brought up this board, i had PM'd a few who were still on scout telling them about our prior "new" board. hopefully they will follow the breadcrumbs to this board

I think this is more about them wanting him around, at the right price, for his role as a respected leader in the locker room who can still be a decent 2 down player. It surprised me to recently hear TJ Barnes single him out, from the entire team, as that leader.

The Jets will reportedly meet with the representative for one of their top prospective free agents at the NFL Scouting Combine.

According to Rich Cimini of ESPN.com, Jets G.M. Mike Maccagnan and the agent for inside linebacker David Harris are slated to talk at the NFL Scouting Combine in Indianapolis.

The 31-year-old Harris notched 123 tackles and 5.5 sacks in 2014 for New York. He has played his first eight seasons with the Jets.

Harris is 36th in PFT’s rankings of the top 100 free agents of 2015.

It may be unpopular, but I dont want him back at any price.

Rex has consistently misjudged the defensive personnel on this team, as he is unable to deviate from the "46 Defense mindset" that his father taught him.

Harris would be a great MLB/ILB in 1985-1995 when RBs were bigger and slower. In today's nfl, there are multiple LBs who would get run over if they faced Jerome Bettis, but who can cover RBs and TEs out of the backfield, and make plays in pursuit - 2 things that Harris is unable to do.

Just as he did trying to make a 290 lb DT into an OLB (and playing him out wide) and playing alongside a 265 lb OLB who also cant cover (pace) Rex stacked his defense with players to "stop your run", but unfortunately he didnt realize the NFL changed 4 years ago.

Harris is too slow for the 2015 and beyond NFL and any snaps he takes at ILB will slow the potential growth of whoever is going to be his replacement and that is why he should not be brought back at any price.

I'm ready for a team overall @ LB. They are too old and slow. I'm not excited to bring back Babin or Pace either. Time for more speed & youth @ LB.
1) Babin - At 34 he's done, plus his penalties could have cost us several games.
2) Bellore - He's OK on ST but not as a starter.
3) Coples - He needs to be on our DL not OLB.
4) Davis - He's only 25 and he's a keeper.
5) Harris - Let the Bills over pay for a 31 MLB.
6) Pace - He's 33 and on the down side of his career.
7) Reilly - I like this 26 year old rookie.
8) Cunningham - I assume he is done ?
9) Harvey - 27 year old P.S. player who is 6'/264.
10) Young - P.S. rookie ?

It does'nt matter if we play 3-4, 4-3 or 4-2, we desperately need an infusion @ LB. I would not be shocked to see us pick Fowler OLB @ #6 ? I wanted Houston from the Chiefs but it appears they are going to hit him with the franchise tag. We need help @ LB.

Agree with all your assessments Im sick of watching Harris get burned by backs or Te's he will probably walk as the Jets new regime might want him but aren't going to spend so much for a 2 down player....

He can walk and go to buffalo with Rex...he's getting up there in age and this is a new regime. Time to start anew

Mike, Welcome out of the darkside ! This board is cool with no enemy trolls, and several people from the old scout board before the invasion !

Back to Harris, Rex will set up a tent in Harris's back yard the day before free agency starts, so he can snag him @ midnight like Bart Scott.

Actually there wasn't much of an invasion. Most of JI's people went to JN, Here or Ragu's board. There is like 2-4 hours between posts at JI/Scout now

I want him back! He can anchor a defense! A great leader and a great player. Getting player who can get 100+ tackles is hard to come by.

It seems like Harris' agents are one of the first people Macc is going to talk to at the combine. If Harris is good with the money, I think it will happen fairly quickly. If he wants to finish his career with Rex, it won't

Bears are reportedly interested in David Harris if he hits the market as they transition to a 3-4 scheme. ATL is reportedly interested as well but Harris would be their 4-3 mlb.

There's chatter that the Dolphins(influenced by Tannenbaum) are interested too.

I have to agree with the majority, i'am ready for a faster MLB that can roam side line to side line with Demario Davis. I feel Harris has done all he could here and it's time to move on.
