Civil lawsuits. The NFL is in defensive mode when it comes to player safety.
Nick, with all due respect that doesn't make much sense..

why would the color of an NFL helmet have anything to do with meeting standard NFL regulations??

It has nothing to due with the color the team could paint a helmet any color they want. It has to due with the NFL only approving one perfectly fitted helmet per player.

[h=1]NFL safety committees told teams not to wear throwback helmets[/h]Posted by Michael David Smith on September 17, 2013, 6:02 PM EDT

The news that the Tampa Bay Buccaneers won’t wear their Bucco Bruce throwback helmetscomes a month after two NFL safety committees concluded that throwback helmets are a bad idea.
The league office passed along to PFT a memo that was sent to the clubs in August, saying that when throwback uniforms are worn, helmets should not be changed.
“Our Head, Neck, and Spine Committee, chaired by Drs. Hunt Batjer and Richard Ellenbogen, and the Player Safety Advisory Panel, chaired by John Madden and Ronnie Lott, have recommended that players no longer wear different helmets as part of a ‘Throwback’ or ‘Third’ uniform,” the memo from the league office said. “Our office supports this change and has reviewed it with the chairman of our Health and Safety ownership committee, Dr. John York, who concurs with this recommendation.”
The league office told all teams planning to wear throwback uniforms this season that players must wear their regular helmets on throwback dates. The outside of the helmet can be modified by removing or replacing decals, but the helmet itself must stay the same. Once players have properly fitted helmets that they’re comfortable wearing, the NFL doesn’t want them changing helmets during the season just for appearances.
We’re told that some teams aren’t yet sure whether to go ahead with plans to wear throwback uniforms. The Cowboys, for instance, planned to wear their throwbacks with white helmets on Thanksgiving, and it’s not yet known whether they will blend throwback jerseys with regular helmets, or just scrap the throwback uniforms entirely.

Time for the Jets to upgrade and get with the times, their unis are plain and boring. Adding a third color (black primarily or dark grey secondary) would add more flare to their unis. Plus this retro design needs to be the standard unis for all teams. Not just a occasional or promotional thing.

I actually like that design. I think that would be a great way to update the uniform. The old logo with newer colors?

Thank goodness the Jets aren't listening to or entertainment any of these suggestions

Not sure how you know that. Nike has been working behind the scenes with teams and have made some changes over the last few years. They recently extended their contract with the NFL

If WRECKS was still involved, I'd be certain he would be pushing hard for big publicity, big splash all black.logos, unis and tattoos to match

My guess is the new guys are more focused on fixing the teams performance than their costumes

I'm pretty sure the jerseys are not Rex's, Bowles or Macs choice.

I'm pretty sure a multipage speculation about new Oregon Duck-like hideous black trimmed hip hop Nike costumes all based on a single tweet may just be the silliest thread in football message board history

This is a pretty douchie post. And this isn't based on a tweet, if you read the original post, it's a link. The Revis tweet is a completely different helmet design.

I for one appreciate threads like these that enlarge my football world. I had no idea the designs were being tossed around until now, and see no problem with us all discussing our opinions of the mock ups.

I second this motion. Nothing wrong with change and discussing it anyway. The designs is sweet looking and just might add something special to the organization. Whether they add a third color or not those unis for this thread look very very impressive. If you think of it, most of the clothing, hats, bags etc the Jets, the NFL itself and all the these sports affiliates sell have the colors green, white and black representing the Jets anyway. So why not add the third color in the unis? Its all about the money in the end, so if this will draw the mula then it will happen and I hope it does.
