Most early post combine mocks I've seen today have Marriota to the Jets

if he is there for our slot, the question becomes in my view what is the LEAST we would take from the Eagles for him

- Foles
- 20th pick
- 2nd round pick
- 1st next season

That's a good question. The related question is do the Eagles try to jump up in front of us?

This would be a major win for us and the new regime in the 1st draft. Was listening to Mike and Mike this morning and Golic was spot on. It's easy to get swayed at the top of the draft with all the holes you have to plug. Most teams drafting that high have a lot of roster issues. But the bottom line is you're not winning jack in this league without the QB.

The thought of going into next season with Geno and Fitzpatrick is nauseating to me. Mariota gives us the best chance to build something long term and eventually a super bowl. His upside is better. You have to keep rolling the dice on that until you find that guy.

So, ya, I'm onboard with going Mariota in round 1 and then someone to help him on offense in round 2: Todd Gurley, DGB, Perriman, Cam Erving, Jalen Strong (if he drops).

I completely understand the logic. I don't disagree. And I won't be upset if we take Mariota. But Jets fans better not expect too much year one, or they'll most likely be very disappointed. Our fan base is notoriously impatient, and quick on the trigger to throw people in the trash bin. Mariota isn't going to come in here from a spread offense, first exposure to NFL defenses, and limited chemistry with new receivers, and guide this team far right away.

I wouldn't be disappointed if Mariota is the pick, but I also wouldn't be disappointed to see something like that Philadelphia trade scenario that all the draft geeks are proposing: Foles, 20th, 2nd this year, 1st next year. This team needs a lot of new parts.

Foles has proven he can be successful in this league if you surround him with talent. Having Decker, Amaro, Spiller, Ivory, and someone like Jalen Strong (6'2, 220, 42" vert) would count.

I'm good with either scenario. If I were Mac, I would really hold that pick for a steep ransom from Philly though. The reason is it's a big win to come out of this draft with Mariota. If Philly wants to give up the farm though, so be it.

Some sports experts are tripping, because Mariota is not going to fall to us @ #6 .

Perfectly said...I would much rather have the trade with the eagles happen if he falls however

That's still the most likely scenario IMHO

yea I think he will be too but if he isn't and we can not trade with Philly, then take him. Like Point said you need to roll the dice till you hit the jackpot.

If he's there at 6, and there is no blockbuster trade to be made, I'd take him. I agree with taking a chance on a qb until we finally land one especially with the rookie wage scale. However, I wouldn't want Mariota starting from week one. Let him sit behind Vet/Geno, not necessarily for the whole year(maybe like Eli did with the Giants in 2004), but enough to get a feel for the pro game.
