Not shocking. A first round pick who never made the kind of impact he should've.
Last year was telling. We're down to guys coming off the street, bypassing Wilson on the depth chart.

As a nickel back I thought Wilson was very good. He just never lived up to his potential. I don't see it as a good move not resigning him unless they are 100% comfortable with McDougle or Marcus Williams taking his role. I guess we have a log jam of mediocre CBs that can be nothing more than nickel backs.
Wilson criticism was at times overblown due to frustration that fans had over a first round pick not being able to win a starting spot for years, and also his lack of impact plays. I don't think Wilson was a bad player, he just didn't establish himself as a priority re-sign for the secondary. Five years, 17 pass defenses, 3 INT's. For the 29th pick of the first round in 2010. Those stats are easily replaceable, IMO.

If I recall correctly, wasn't he an excellent punt returner in college? He couldn't even

I'm not so sure. I don't think Rex has any faith in him either. Wilson didn't play a single snap on defense(despite being healthy) in the finale against the Dolphins. He only played special teams.
