I would make Suh a high priority free agent for the Jets.

I know its not a need. In fact the D-line is easily the strongest unit on the team. But we have well over 50 million in cap space and we are mandated to spend it this year, and I don't want to spend it on free agents who don't deserve it. I want to spend it on IMPACT PLAYERS, and if you have enough of those its never a bad thing.

That said, I would sigh Suh and switch to a base 4-3

RUNNING DOWN

DE Sheldon Richardson
DT BIG SNACKS
DT Ndamukong Suh
DE Mo Wilkerson

PASSING DOWNS

DE Quinton Coples
DT Sheldon Richardson
DT Ndamukong Suh
DE Mo Wilkerson

Its a terrific five man rotation and you need a fifth man in todays NFL, its way too exhausting for four DL's to play an entire game, you need five starting caliber DL's with a run stuffing specialist and a pass rushing specialist, and thats what we would have with Snacks and Coples. So this can work and it essentially gives us a Super Unit on the defensive line, and we'll actually be getting some real bang for our free agent dollars with KONG SUH.

Lastly I talked about this last week in another thread, but it was to our detriment that the cap was recently increased. That gave the teams that were cap strapped a better chance to re-sign their own pending free agents and thus will limit the pool of impact free agents to choose from. So we essentially have a Gold Card this year, we're mandated to spend like drunken sailors, and we won't have a lot of real impact free agents to spend it on. Thats another reason why we have to make a run at a player like Suh.

Negative. Our d-line is stacked and one of the best in the NFL. We need CBs, WRs, QB, RBs, o-linemen and pass rushing and coverage LBs in this FAs and draft. Not another 300 lb DE no matter how great Suh is.

Those SB Giants teams covered a lot of weaknesses with an overflowing amount of talent up front, so I could see the argument you're making

(of course, I also agreed with your OL superunit mantra from a few years ago, so I guess I'm just your lackey . . .)

Would you rather have another GREAT D-lineman, or a mediocre corner, wide receiver or pass rusher?

There will not be a lot of impact players in this free agent crop, thats the problem, we have the money to shop at Saks 5th Ave., but there will not be a lot of A-list items to choose from. Suh and Demarco Murray are two and there are not many more, thanks to the league raising the cap. We have enough money to sign Suh and Murray and still sign a corner like Maxwell and a slot WR like Randall Cobb, then draft White or Cooper.

lol thanks OCCH, but super units are good everywhere, I'll take them anywhere I can get them. :)

What about the rest of the needs lacking by signing Suh to such a big contract. Their saying Suh will demand more then what J.J. Watt signed for. That is a insane amount of money to pay him with the d-line we have now. Suh isn't much better then Wilkerson if at all and Richardson is a monster also. Let's not forget about big snacks and Coples who truly should be playing DE at 290 lbs. Where is there room for Suh and money to pay him and still add the other needs where lacking?

If it could be written into his contract that he has to, accidentally of course, happen to kick Brady in the groin twice a year then sign me up to the get Suh campaign :)

Plus its an awesome start for Cy's 4-2-5 master plan for the D

Failing that, draft and FA all our other needs as Suh really would be a luxury pick as the Dline is already pretty stocked and I want our own resigned before investing in more for the front

Murray, Maxwell and Cobb, Maclin or T. Smith I'm with you. I would add Cro and/or McCourty to the mix. Can't forget the o-linemen and a pass rushing LB that can cover also. We also can't forget signing a vet QB. So there is a ton of impact FAs to spend the money on that doesn't include Suh. Just my opinion though.

This is like the age old question in the draft, 82, do you draft for need or value?

Certainly its wonderful when need collides with value and you can snag both, then you have no dilemma, but sometimes the draft presents you with the need verses value choice and most GM's, when faced with that dilemma, will tell you the smart move is to take the value and let the coach figure out how to use it.

Agreed! Guess we can both agree the new regime has a lot of decisions to make in FAs and the draft. Alot of money, high draft picks and a lot of needs to fill.

Yep, they're in a great position with over 50 million in cap space. They should be able to snag multiple big-time free agents, then get me one of those stud WR's at #6 and we're Kool and the Gang

I would pass, but that is mainly because I would spend resources on other higher priority needs.

Suh would definitely bring some nasty to the defense. But not always "good nasty".

He'll also probably get penalized for stepping on people and getting 15 yard personal foul penalties. He's got a rep for being a dirty player. And he's brought it on himself over the years.

More of a Rex player than a Bowles player.

You know as long as it wouldnt hurt us in getting other players I could be talked into it. With that said I really doubt it.

Could you imagine Suh and Richardson together? In NY? Would be good TV if nothing else.

I rather build a solid linebacking core and keep the d line as is. I think the coaches Bowles bought in on defense really does reinforce coaching up our defensive lb core and secondary. OLB and ILB could be up there with CB as top priority.
