Zach compared to the other young star/superstar QBs

Trevor Lawrence:
3-14 overall.
359/602 (59.6%).
3,641 passing yards ).
(6.0 yards per pass attempt).
12 TDs/17 INTs.
9 fumbles (5 lost).
22 Turnovers.
QB Rating of 71.9.

Zach Wilson:
3-10 overall.
213/383 (55.6%).
2,334 Passing Yards.
(6.1 yards per attempt).
9 TDs/11 INTs.
5 fumbles (1 lost).
12 Turnovers.
QB Rating of 69.7.

Both were drafted into absolute crap (team) situations but Trevor Lawrence unlike Zach Wilson didn't have to go up against and face the NFLs #1 toughest and most difficult Defensive Schedule of any QB in the NFL (as did Zazh Wilson).

I still believe in both of these QB prospects and (just like Josh Allen) can't wait how they look as 3rd year and especially as 4th year QBs.

They were both equally as shitty. And both drafted into equally as shitty teams.

No I won't. I was never no Sam Darnold lover and never believed in his arm talent like I do Zach Wilson's. I just wasn't 100% against the idea of bringing Sam back for year #4 in order to see how he performed as a 4th year player. Glad I was wrong (he stinks). But with Zach Wilson I see something truly special. I wasn't a fan of his during the Offseason but once I got to see his talents on the field he won me over.

Would you mind reminding us all how "shitty" the likes of Steve Young, John Elway, Troy Aikman, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning and Josh Allen all played as only Rookie QBs?

Or what about Joe Montana, Brett Favre, Steve McNair, Tom Brady, Drew Brees, Philip Rivers, Tony Romo, Aaron Rodgers and Patrick Mahomes as Rookies? Nevermind. None of them were thrown into the fire behind crap teams @ QB (like Zach Wilson) and they all sat the bench as Rookies (unlike Zach Wilson).

You sure like to remind me of Joe Burrow as a Rookie but yet you seem to never mention the Rookie years of Steve Young, John Elway, Troy Aikman, Peyton Manning, Eli Manning and Josh Allen but I wonder why? Maybe it's because you're trying to convince everyone that Zach Wilson is "shitty" but yet they weren't?

Dude I might have said one or two things about Joe Burrow. And probably not to you. On another forum you actually said Darnold was awesome. And you said you loved his ability as a freshman at USC. I never once sounded like you do for Wilson about Darnold. Hell I never talked up Sam like you did.

I'm waiting to see what Wilson does next season and I think it's early to compare him to any qb. However, there are some things that concern me:
1. The 2nd overall pick should be pro ready and Wilson clearly wasn't.
2. Early in the season, Mike White, Josh Johnson, and Joe Flacco all performed about the same and all were better than Wilson.
3. Robert Saleh said that Wilson can learn from watching Mike White, the guy they activated from the practice squad. This comment is actually the the biggest cause of concern.

Wilson did manage to get his int numbers down. But that was not coupled with an increase in productivity. In the last 5 games, he managed not to throw an int. But the Jets went 1-4, winning only against the Jacksonville Jaguars (who finished 3-14) by a measly 5 points. In 3 of those 5 games, Wilson's qb rating was below 70, and the Jet were -44 in point differential.

Bottom line:
It's too early to write the guy off. But I can't help but think that maybe the Jets were reluctant to bench him because of his contract.

I love when we get a great post that sums it up. You sir have just done it......let's let it play out. Time will tell. Also, lets not jump down other people's throats. We all have our say/.

Matthew Stafford was a former #1 overall pick with a big arm and like Zach Wilson crazy arm talent who struggled as a Rookie in Detroit (despite a BEAST Calvin Megatron Johnson) and only went...

2-8 overall.
201/377 (53.3%).
2,267 Passing Yards.
13 TDs/20 INTs.
4 fumbles (1 lost).
21 Turnovers.
Sacked only 24x.
QB Rating of only 61.0.

But look @ him now.

And he started to light it up before injury in year #2 and absolutely took the league by storm year #3.

Rookie struggles mean absolutely nothingness in the grand scheme of things especially @ QB.

So I have to wait for 13 years for Wilson to make it to the SB?? Wilson is going to end up somewhere between Stafford and Ryan Leaf. Stafford landed in the perfect spot because he was never going to get Detroit over the top. I sure hope he wins growing up in Dallas.

Thank you for creating this thread @jets82

It's a sign of relief and makes me feel better knowing just how many Rookie QBs weren't inducted into the HOF after their struggles as only a Rookie and/or how many Rookie QBs weren't even good enough to start and sat the bench during their Rookie years.
No problem my dude! Unlike some, unless it’s Darnold who could do no wrong in their eyes for three while he was here, Wilson struggled but like most rookie QBs that struggled he can find his way. IT’S VERY POSSIBLE!

That truly shows your ignorance because I'm right 1 out of 10 times and you are missing some pure gold. Unlike Darnold, all those QB's were given weapons and coaches for them to succeed. Darnold has never had that at any level of his career. Hopefully JD doesnt make that mistake with Wilson. It doesn't seem like he will. Whether he understands what talent is needed is still up for debate. He has this year and next to fix his mistakes and get this team close to playoff caliber. Then again Darnold is not on the Jets anymore. People need to move on. I know I'm not the one that brings him up and he has nothing to do with Wilson.
OK, so Darnold had a brigade of weapons with Carolina this year and still couldn’t make it happen. Even got benched for Cam if I’m correct. What’s your excuse with that? I’m listening!!!

Naw, you don’t have to wait 13 years. Just pick another team to route for and your problems solved. The Bills, Chiefs, Chargers and Bengals are always taking on thirsty fans who want to be bandwagon riders! You see, problem solved!!!

I've put up with way too much shit to quit now. I live in Dallas and could have had 5 SB's in my lifetime. Somehow I chose the Jets, but it was my choice so I have to go down with the ship. I've tried.

He sucks. Definitely bad he got benched for washed up Cam Newton. Is that what you want to hear? Jesus dude you also need to get over it. STOP FUCKING TALKING ABOUT DARNOLD.

This was the major reason why I didn’t want Zach Wilson . The way the season played out, I believed that I may have been a bit wrong in my analysis.

It's not the issue it once was 20 years ago when the money for the second overall pick would've been a larger portion of the cap...sign a 5 year contract...player sucks for 1 year but gets huge money...even if he comes into his own on the 2nd year of a backloaded contract, a year later it has to be renegotiated up to keep him, if not the team is still on the hook for about 60% of it.

But it's still an issue.

Going 1-4 down the stretch cannot be hung solely on Wilson.
The defense, with all the injuries, was terrible as was the kicking game.
2nd Miami game, if Amendola or whatever his fucking name was, makes half his kicks, Jets win, I believe
Against the Eagles?? Kid couldn’t make an extra point.
Im sure it affected coaching strategies as well, at least until Piniero showed he can make a friggin kick.
Jets had the Bucs beat, ‘til they didn’t.
I am very excited for the future with Zach at the helm. I see a very special right arm, now the game started to slow down a bit for him at the end. When the roster is healthy and improved through FA and the draft, 2022 should be the start of the ever elusive turnaround. Going around .500 next year should be the benchmark of the rebuild.

I’ll stop when you start showing Zach just a little bit of love! You won’t give this kid a chance and deep down inside you know that but you went down with the ship with Darnold. Absolutely makes no sense at all. SMDH!

I said he made progress. Thats all I'm giving him. Y'all know Zach doesn't read this stuff right? Nobody on here wants to read about you and I arguing about Darnold so I won't respond from now on. You and your buddy DWC can talk about it all you want. I told you a month ago that I didn't want to do this anymore, you agreed and now you want to start it back up. That's on you. Others have been way more critical of Zach than I have. If you want to ruin this forum talking about players that have failed with the Jets then you will be real busy.
