Breaking News: Jets release Harvin/(NOT YET CONFIRMED)

Percy Harvin - WR - Free Agent
Jets will release WR Percy Harvin.
He was owed $10.5 million. The Jets will absorb Brandon Marshall's $7.7M instead and give Harvin his walking papers after he contributed 51 catches, 685 total yards, and two touchdowns to New York and Seattle last season. The draft pick the Jets owe the Seahawks also drops from a fourth-rounder to a sixth-rounder. Harvin turns 27 in May and should have an active free agent market despite his inability to stick with one team. Some team will surely take a flier on his game-breaking ability as a wideout-running back and kickoff return ace.

Makes no sense to release him before Marshall passes his physical. Really doesn't make much sense to release him before the deadline (3/19?). They gain nothing, and if the top WRs come off the board in the next week, maybe he blinks and restructures, maybe somebody panics and does a deal before he hits FA, who knows. Doubtful, but since it costs you nothing...

good it makes perfect sense we gain 10 m if marshall doesn't pass a physical and we keep our 4th

or we still gain 2 m if marshall passes and we get a number wideout and still keep our 4th

letting harvin walk regardless is a win-win-win for us.

I bet John Idzik consultant with the Jags is all over Percy Harvin when he is released. Percy's a Florida guy and the Jags are loaded financially but need more weapons for Bortles.

We upgraded the WR position by getting a truer #1 player. Although he's older than Harvin, he's still better in terms of our needs. Big, strong physical WR who's especially good in the red zone. Harvin wasn't a #1 WR. Both are divas. We lose a fifth rounder, but add 2 million to our cap with this swap.

I'd say it was a good day in Jet Land, especially when you add in the Harris re-sign. Sorry WRECKS.

As I read the two reports, Rapaport who actually talks to the Jets and other teams says "Harvin will be released'

Womanish who is probably barred by court order from being closer than 3 miles to the Jets office says it hasn't been decided yet

Who to believe? Who to believe?

The deal is done. Period.

Brandon Marshall, 2.5 million and a 4th round pick for a fifth pick to the Bears and sixth round pick to the Vikings for Percy Harvin

Could be as a good a trade as the Cowboy deal with the Vikings for Hershall Walker

I agree, except one thing, how's Geno, Foles, Hoyer or whomever going to react when Marshall gets in their face like a crazy person ! What is it with WR's, are they born diva's or what. That's why I still want Cooper, he's a Good kid and great WR.

I think Percy played hard for us when he was here and seemed to be trying and seemed to care. So, I thank him for his efforts and wish him the best

Wow, if you count all the picks we already had and didn't lose (like the 4th) it really can sound like the Herschel deal! Brandon Marshall, 2.5 million and 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 7th round picks for a fifth pick to the Bears and sixth round pick to the Vikings for Percy Harvin.

Sheesh...

Dear sheesh

We would not have had that fourth had we had kept Harvin and not traded for Marshall

You stand corrected

No prob

We would not have had the 1st, or any others if we traded them either. But, like 4th, we didn't (as long as we release Harvin, as I think we will in the next week or two).

You know why you don't release him ?? because you don't want to give other Gm's a heads up to plan and scheme..you want to cut him either 4 or 5 hours before or after the FA period starts although they probably know hes going to be released there still is no parameters...

You want to give the other GMs more white noise to potentially distract them....so maybe it could help jets

I tell you what..if Cobb leaves GB I would have Harvin on speed dial with Rogers they wont miss too much of a beat with Harvin

As soon as Marshall turns his head and coughs, Harvin is gone.

I have no complaints about what Harvin did here. He filled a role, was generally a better citizen and teammate than he has been elsewhere, and provided some hope to an otherwise mostly hopeless set of skill players.

But he's a slot guy, and Kerley does that quite well, for a lot less money. No more round pegs in square holes.
