This is a tricky question because we've been burnt before by defensive linemen who have mailed it in after being 'shown the money'. I think it depends on whether we intend to bring in a veteran QB and make a playoff run next year; if this is the case, we have to keep our best players rather than some draft picks that may take time to develop (if they don't bust!).
Good question and I don't have a good answer. I think we all feel that his play will drop off at least a little once he gets that contract.

I think QW is starting to hit his stride.
A better rusher next to him than Lawson, maybe not rotate QW out as much, plus the Jets need an upgrade over Solomon Thomas and Nathan Shepherd if they keep this rotation going.
Looking for a nice jump in production from J. Johnson next year.

No. I’m sick of the team dumping proven players for draft picks that turn out shitty. Williams is A home grown player…… pay him
i said before williams' contract year push, he's no klecko or jenkins & i still believe that.. those guys were forces of nature....williams is not..
that said, he's been more productive than i thought he would be this season & he flashed leadership this season as well.. i view him as just outside of being a true game changer..

Interesting about Q not being Klecko or Jenkins. I think higher of Klecko than most (yeah, that much, they triple teamed the guy and he still had something like 75 sacks) but it made me look at Jenkins. Now I know football stats aren't totally meaningful and rarely comparable between eras but here's what I found:

Probably pay him because the DL is pretty average without him.
no question jenkins was never the rusher williams is but he collapsed pockets so well & just flat out bullied the line..

Sure I would trade "Q" if Chicago wants to give us Fields and the #1 pick in the draft. I would also throw in Laken Tomlinson and his full contract too.
