The source of the tension between Rex and Mornhinweg
Rex Ryan and Marty Mornhinweg speak at Jets practice this week.

Jets coach Rex Ryan spent his Friday press conference talking about his relationship with offensive coordinator Marty Mornhinweg, instead of discussing the Vikings, whom the Jets play Sunday.
This came in response to an explosive report by SB Nation that Ryan has considered firing Mornhinweg multiple times this season and the two are at odds. Ryan emphatically denied that was the case.
“I would deny that, 100 percent I’ll deny that, that I’m looking to fire Marty or anybody,” Ryan said. “You know we challenge each other all the time. … I don’t know where it’s coming from. So to me I think it’s a complete bogus deal. So, I’m not saying it wasn’t said by somebody, but it certainly wasn’t said by me or thought by me.”
A source confirmed Ryan’s account that there has been no discussion of firing Mornhinweg. Two sources did tell The Post there has been some tension between Ryan and Mornhinweg over the play-calling, though nothing close to what the article portrayed.
Ryan is known for his love of the running game, while Mornhinweg came to the Jets in 2013 with a reputation for being pass-happy.
One Jets source said there have been no arguments in front of the team or coaches between the two men. Another said they have had some disagreements, but nothing unusual for the coaching staff of a 2-10 team searching for answers.
“Rex and I are close,” Mornhinweg said in a statement released by the team. “Everything we do is about getting better and figuring out a way to win football games.”

It has been a trying year as the Jets endured eight straight losses and bounced between Geno Smith and Michael Vick at quarterback.
The Jets currently rank 29th in total offense in the NFL, No. 3 in rushing offense and No. 32 in passing offense. The Jets have thrown the ball (402 times) slightly more than they have run it (370), but they have been behind in nearly every game this year, which skews the numbers toward passing more.
On Monday night against the Dolphins, the Jets ran the ball 49 times and threw just 13 times. SB Nation quoted two sources saying the game plan was Mornhinweg sticking it to Ryan.
Multiple sources emphatically denied that was the case to The Post.
“That’s just silly,” one source said.
Ryan was upset at the portrayal of the organization as being dysfunctional and in disarray.
“I’ll tell you this, this locker room, as close as this group is and as tight as this group is, players, coaches all that stuff here, I mean the 2-10 record is the only thing that doesn’t make sense to us,” Ryan said. “When you look at everything else, this is a tight group. Is it perfect? It’s never perfect, but man, it’s a hard-working group, I can tell you that much right now. It’s not a lack of preparation. It’s not the work ethic or anything else. It’s just, we haven’t got the wins.”
This is the latest flare-up around the Jets, who have endured several of these brushfires over the past six years with Ryan in charge. That has led to a dysfunctional label being attached to the Jets. One source in the SB Nation story from outside the Jets organization called it “toxic.”
“I don’t like the dysfunction thing because I think that’s ridiculous,” Ryan said. “What’s dysfunctional might be the record. We’re 2-10.
“But anything else? I mean maybe there’s a perception out there. … It ticks me off. I’m tired of having that kind of perception out there because it’s not reality.”

Great article and I am glad Rex is fighting the reports of a toxic atmosphere. It might be just the media stirring trouble.. Just end the season!

The story might have some truth to it but does it really matter both will be gone and we need to start over...the impact of the story if true would be different if we were in the hunt for the playoffs
