Next steps - after Big Tuesday

So, after Marshall, Skrine, Revis, Carpenter (confirmed?), Powell and Harvin (released at least for now), what next?

What are our priorities and how are we doing on the cap?

On the cap - do some of our cap experts have a sense of where we are at this point?

Positional priorities:

1. QB
2. edge rusher
3. another OL
4. safety who can cover
5. LB with speed and coverage ability

Except for QB, I feel good about addressing these in draft and with a few more modest FA signings.

IMO the Jets will draft Mariota now with this Foles to the Rams deal. If some how someone jumps ahead of them for him then the Jets will draft a premiere LB that can pass cover as well. If not LB, then the best o-linemen out there. Gotta save money for our own big FA coming up and rookie signings. Guess they will address a safety and insurance QB in FA but that will be about it I'm thinking. RB and WR I believe they will address in the later rounds if the deaft

Sign Fitz right after he is released, then sit back, with a good bit of money, and see what develops

Curious why you have Harvin on your check list, he's a free agent and doubt we bring him back unless I missed something ?

As bad as I still want White or Cooper WR's, I bet we go OLB with Gregory, Fowler or Ray.

Go Jets...Cyborg

We have about 20 million left in cap space

Started with 46 minus 16 for DR minus 6.25 for our new CB minus 4.75 for our new OG = 19 million add back 10 from PH being released and remove 7.5 from our new elite WR = 21.5 million not including Powell contract

I was unclear - I meant the release of Harvin - as a salary reduction at least for now....I'll edit

I think right now, we are in good shape to draft the best available athlete in each of the 1st 4 rounds

Its setting up nicely for Mariota if you ask me.

If not then pass rusher for sure.

QB is the really big one, IMO. We find "The One", and that will mask any of the other remaining holes.
I am curious what the group thinks we should do for QB, especially if Mariota is gone by #6 .
?

Not many options...probably Fitzpatrick and draft another guy..I am not and never was a Matt Simms

I just want a QB who limits his turnovers....how many games in past 2 years would they have won the last 2 years..if they limited TO's ??

This FO clearly has its eyes on the present and the future. We bring in exceptional 'bridge' talent like Marshall and Revis, and guys who are just coming into their own in Skrine and Carpenter. Future signings like Fitzpatrick and Cromartie will also be bridge guys (albeit not exceptional), and Gilchrist in the Skrine/Carpenter mold. So who are these guys a bridge to? Revis and Cromartie ----> Milliner, Williams and Mcdougle? Marshall ----> Evans and #1 or 2 draft pick? Fitz---> Geno ---> draft choice? The only position where there is no future and marginal present talent is OLB/Edge, so that has to be the #6 pick. If we're lucky we can get an elite player at that spot, and with it a defense that can atone for shortcomings at the QB position. I really like how things are shaping up, and extremely excited about what happens in the draft.

I believe Macc's got a few more FA signings, albeit nothing like the Revis deal. Maybe Gilchrist and Fitzpatrick. If Cro comes in, the CB position is gonna be crowded, but after watching last season, I'm good with that. The million dollar question is what Macc thinks of Mariota. Do we take a guy that could be a franchise QB in a few years, and sit him behind Geno Smith (and possibly Fitz)? Take the time to develop a young QB the right way? If Macc believes in Mariota, it's a no-brainer.

If not, there are too many edge rushers of value at #6 , combined with a huge need there for the Jets. If it's not Mariota, I cannot see a reason why Beasley, Ray, Gregory, or Fowler isn't the pick.

Hoping Gilchrist, Cro, and Carpenter deals get done today...

#6 - mariota wont be there, still think there's a chance we trade back or up...if we stay, pass rusher like everyone else said.

in addition to getting a QB (fitz likely) and adding more DB depth (cro and gilchirst), i'd like to add an edge rusher. doesn't have to be a top dollar player, just a little depth at the position.

this way, they can enter the draft and truly go BPA. while there seems to be great talent at the rush end/OLB position, i'd rather be true to the board and take the BPA. so that opens the possibility of still going after a WR if cooper or white is the BPA on their board.
