If you can't stand Geno (just like me) or you support him, Smith has the perfect stage this season to turn everyone into believers, just as Drew Brees did in the summer of 2004 where Rivers (as a rook) did not enter into training camp until late August.
Brees seized the moment and made that locker room "his" week 1 of the regular season. The same can be had for Geno if he can place all his talent together. I feel the pressure is like no other off season for him. It won't be just given to him. It won't be all smiles at training camp. It will be his auditioning to perform at a high level for the Jets and other teams if NY tends to go in a different direction.
I have been on the negative Geno Smith bandwagon since he was drafted because i just didn't see any drive in him, even at WVU. I thought the offense he ran in college really didn't demonstrate what he had between the ears. Now, the same argument can be had with Marcus Mariota. IMHO, if we draft Marcus and people, such as myself are so critical of Geno, will not have the patience to deal with Mariota's learning curve from a BS system.
In saying so, if Mariota is the man the Jets target in the 1st round, whether it's trading up or at 6, the time it takes for him to adapt to the pros, it will give Smith the opportunity to become BREES 2.0.
Though, i'am very skeptical that this would ever happen, yet i hope, i honestly hope me and every Geno doubter/basher by the end of the 2015 campaign will be proven wrong.
