Is it at all possible that Geno Smith has developed this year to being a real QB this year?

If you can't stand Geno (just like me) or you support him, Smith has the perfect stage this season to turn everyone into believers, just as Drew Brees did in the summer of 2004 where Rivers (as a rook) did not enter into training camp until late August.
Brees seized the moment and made that locker room "his" week 1 of the regular season. The same can be had for Geno if he can place all his talent together. I feel the pressure is like no other off season for him. It won't be just given to him. It won't be all smiles at training camp. It will be his auditioning to perform at a high level for the Jets and other teams if NY tends to go in a different direction.

I have been on the negative Geno Smith bandwagon since he was drafted because i just didn't see any drive in him, even at WVU. I thought the offense he ran in college really didn't demonstrate what he had between the ears. Now, the same argument can be had with Marcus Mariota. IMHO, if we draft Marcus and people, such as myself are so critical of Geno, will not have the patience to deal with Mariota's learning curve from a BS system.

In saying so, if Mariota is the man the Jets target in the 1st round, whether it's trading up or at 6, the time it takes for him to adapt to the pros, it will give Smith the opportunity to become BREES 2.0.

Though, i'am very skeptical that this would ever happen, yet i hope, i honestly hope me and every Geno doubter/basher by the end of the 2015 campaign will be proven wrong.

Funny how people just dismiss Geno like he's trash. Breez has talent and other statements like that just show the true dismissal of what Geno can possibly be. To me Geno should just simply let it all hang out there and have fun with it. Majority if not all people are counting him out anyway so what difference does it make. If he screws it up then like some say, he will get cut and be out of football period. So just let it hang loose Geno and don't sweat it kid. Give it all you got, be smart and patient but confident and sure in yourself and see what happens.

If we end up taking a pass rusher at #6 , we have to take a solid WR prospect with our 2nd round pick. If Marshall or Decker go down we need to have no drop in talent at the position. Our wideouts have to be skilled enough to make Geno look good.

I agree 1000%. They should draft the best LB they can in the first. The second and third should be the best WR or o-linemen available in which ever order. I say 4th should be a RB but others will argue QB or QB even higher. 7th round pick should be best player available.

If Mariota is there at six we have to take him. If not, Petty, Grayson, Hundley or Mannion in a later round. That way the rook can develop behind Fitzpatrick and Simms in 2015 and be ready to step in NLT 2016. Sooner if it's Mariota

Derek Carr’s 2014 tape really isn’t any better than Geno Smith’s.

Gregg Rosenthal @greggrosenthal · 5h5 hours ago

That's best argument for Carr. But projecting a lot RT @AlexSinclairNFL: Second year player vs. a rookie should have Geno a good deal ahead

Gregg Rosenthal @greggrosenthal · 5h5 hours ago

Both have a chance and show some very positive traits. But conventional wisdom is that Carr solves Raiders QB situation. Early to say that.

Gregg Rosenthal @greggrosenthal · 5h5 hours ago

. @DanHanzus disagrees, but also think it's too early to say Geno is a bum. Has a chance with the right system.

@greggrosenthal Geno's ceiling to me is 2014 Andy Dalton. Raiders better hope Carr can be better than that.

An insane amount of short passes and dump-offs. RT @greggrosenthal: Derek Carr’s 2014 tape really isn’t any better than Geno Smith’s.

Geno isn't really the disaster a lot of #Jets fans already decided he is. He has physical tools and has shown flashes in an inconsistent O.

I don't know, there are some pretty astute experts on this board who would disagree.

Doesn't matter what facts, stats, predictions or quotes you put up from other NFL pundits, experts or whatever. People are still going to hate on Geno because that's who they are. Geno has always been a developmental QB as Sanchez was and Mariota appears to be. Meaning Geno needed to ride the bench and learn a year or two just like Sanchez should have and Mariota will probably need to to. If not that then or also he needs a quality HC, OC, QB coach, GM and team to help in his development whenever he played. He didn't have that for two years here, his first two years in the NFL period. He does now and I believe he will improve greatly. If he doesn't then so be it but I think he can do it.

I think head to head mariotta would learn the system before geno........like i said i believe mariotta is heads and shoulders above geno as far as his brain.

geno may be the more athletically gifted but very few people can translate a college game QB to the NFL.

The only thing that worries me about mariotta is can he get the ball off faster than he did in college, because in the nfl he will need to read and go through his projections a smidgen faster than college.

WHAT, a change of heart for Geno or is this this just bogus or sarcastic and condescending talk?
Why are you so angry all the time. Constantly battling demons and haters.

Relax, it's only stupid sports stuff we talk about here, not wars, famines and natural disasters. Just sh*ts and giggles

I'll make it simple for you to understand. Smith is a NYJet. I love the Jets and have rooted for every one of them since 1960. I rooted for Kotite and Charlie Winner and Brooks Bollinger and Bill Demory. Thus I am rooting for Geno as long as he is a Jet.

Whoever wears the Green and White is my guy. So let's just get along and be JetFansUnited and save our anger, hate and paranoia for Brady, Belichick and Kraft

PLEASE, lets keep it real here can we? All of your post on this very thread here has been nothing but spilling hatred and vemon towards Geno. You gave every indications and straight out said Geno was garage, would get beat out by anyone on the team, QB or not as our starting QB and Geno would be cut by game one and probably never be in football again. These are your very words pretty much. So don't try to tell me or anyone else you are or were rooting for Geno because he's a Jet. You made that very clear that you weren't and we all know that. No one is stupid or blind or can't read between the lines here my friend!

Now is it possible you had a change of heart about Geno, I guess so. Is it possible you have always rooted for any Jet not named Geno Smith, could be also. I'm also not questioning your loyalty and desire to see our beloved Jets team win or how long you've been a Jets fan. But don't try to tell us this BS that you were a Geno supporter because he is a Jet because you made it clear you were not. It was pretty clear you were one of Geno's biggest bashers on the board and I was one of Geno's biggest supporters on this board. I simply asked was your post of, "I hope so" real and not sarcasm because of all the post from earlier of your dislike for him, its not about me being angry all the time.
