Is it at all possible that Geno Smith has developed this year to being a real QB this year?

I've told you my position. I would prefer Fitzpatrick and would prefer drafting Mariota at 6 or Petty, Grayson, Hundley or Mannion in a later round. I don't think Smith is a long term answer at QB. But he is a Jet and if he beats out all the others in the first fair competition of his NFL career, then he deserves the support of all Jet fans including you and me.

This is the last time I am going to explain this. I hope you get it. If not, I don't actually care.

That wasn't your position on this or at least you didn't explain it that way and I don't care you if you like it or not or want to except it or not. You made it clear and seem as if Geno was the worst QB in history period. Not Jets history but history period! It also appeared to me at least you didn't support Geno and wouldn't no matter what. Didn't matter how good he played this year or who he beat out for the job under any conditions. Don't try and back track on all your your statements now like you were misunderstood or something. It was what it was and you said what you said period! Own up to it!

I am truly sorry to have to tell you this. Prosecutor Javert, but your case is dismissed.

Hopefully you'll have greater success in your jousts and battles with other of your long list of real or imaginary "haters"[emoji4]

LOL, stay in denial if you want but I and everyone else that read your post know the truth. It is what it is and if you had a change of heart, then just man up and say that. Don't try to fool anyone with your BS of you never just outright saying you didn't want Geno here and didn't believe in him no matter what he did on the field crap. Thats just lame but whatever, pointless in us going back and forth over nothing. Were all Jets fans and want the best for our team and the best players. Some of the best players just take longer to develop then others.

I think head to head mariotta would learn the system before geno........like i said i believe mariotta is heads and shoulders above geno as far as his brain.

geno may be the more athletically gifted but very few people can translate a college game QB to the NFL.

The only thing that worries me about mariotta is can he get the ball off faster than he did in college, because in the nfl he will need to read and go through his projections a smidgen faster than college.

A smidgen? In the NFL, you have to see WRs open before they're open and put the ball where it needs to be in anticipations of them getting open...watch Mariotas college game film, he waits for WRs to break open uncovered then throws to wide open uncovered wrs...
His transition is more than a smidgen...the kid doesn't even know how to take snaps under center. :)

If we can't get/don't want Winston/Mariota, there are some who believe we won't go qb in this draft.

Know #Jets fans have mentioned few QBs beside MM/JW. None are even close to better prospects than Geno and all are much bigger projects

These are common criticisms of Mariota. And it scares me a little. I laugh when Cimini seems to suggest that Mariota would start from day one. No way. If we draft him, Geno would eventually go bye bye. But Fitzpatrick would start for the Jets. No doubt in my mind. Mariota is gonna need a full year of development from Gailey and the QB coach, if by chance we drafted him at #6 .

Joe's right. Wait until next year. Don't get a mediocre QB for the sake of getting one. This QB draft class is poor.

I agree. Let's just develop the weapons around the QB so next year if we do draft one we can just plug him in because the rest of the offense will be set.

Let's continue to improve, WR, RB, Oline. For the first time in a long time, let's put a QB in a position to succeed rather than throw him in there with crap like Sanchez and Geno have dealt with over their careers.

Sanchez had weapons. As a matter of fact, his mediocrity was masked by Thomas Jones, Braylon Edwards, Santonio Holmes, and a very good o-line during the playoff runs.

Geno? That argument holds water. If he wins the starting job, no more excuses. He's got Marshall and Decker.

ABSOLUTELY CORRECT....and if the Jets trade up/don't trade up..even pass on him..they sent 6 of their evaluators to his workout..so if you want to trust them we should....they know what they are or aren't getting into..they sent 6 guys to go look at him

his performance hasn't been stellar, to be kind. i really hope he breaks out and kills it this year. i'd like to think that the regime change, and the negative press he's gotten will put a fire in his belly and it will drive him to be his best. i think he has it in him to lead this team. if he doesn't get the job done this year, it's time to move on.

i trust coach bowles to put the best quarterback on the field, and whoever that is will have my unwavering support.

I am far from a geno supporter but I am a huge fan of gailey and if anyone is going to get something out of Smith it will be gailey. I don't think Smith will beat out Fitzpatrick anyway.
