I tried to use the blanket statement of "pass rusher" in my remark. A lot of teams need pass rushers, but not all pass rushers will be used the same.
You cant just take the best pass rusher, you have to take the best pass rusher for your system. I threw Thompson out there because a team like Atlanta or the Giants may like him more than Ray...both may be better fits for their systems than ours, but will be viewed as pass rushers in this draft class, IMO.
I dont want Thompson for the Jets, agreed, I'd prefer Dupree (270lbs) or Beasely if Gregory is gone...but both Beasely (236) and Gregory (235 at Combine but reports are he played at 245lbs before getting ill in January) are more pass rush specialists as rookies that hypefully grow into 3-4 OLB starters...I think Dupree can push for starting reps as a rookie; however, I dont grade that as a high value when considering who to take. If im the jets picking 6, I take who they think will be best of those 3, even if it takes that chosen rookie 1 year of being a pass rushing specialist before being ready for full time duties.
I do think Dupree is the "one" OLB prospect that may be ready to start Day 1, but I also see him as an Orakpo type. Dupree also has injury concerns as he enters the NFL.
Im still on board with pass rusher rd 1. I know some feel we've addressed defense enough...but the strength of this draft at the top is pass rusher...so go with the strength of the draft class, we did the opposite of that last year, let's not do that again...
