Assuming QB Jameis Winston and DT Leonard Williams are gone, which of these players would YOU pick? Not who you think the Jets will pick, but the player you'd draft if you were the GM

Dante Fowler is the most complete player of the edge rushers, a blur off the edge as a pass rusher, can bull-rush too, but can also set the edge verses the run. Thats my guy if he falls to 6.

I chose Beasley because we need a pass rushing threat to make this defense great. Mariota won't be ready to play for 2-3 years and there is a 50/50 chance he won't be adjust to NFL game. Beasley or Cooper are almost sure things and can contribute now and in 2-3 years be dominant.

Vernon Gholston was considered the best edge rusher as well when we selected him. I'd rather take my chance with a QB with potential to be great than a OLB, in which we can select later in the draft. Franchise QB's are very hard to come by.

I want Cooper. I want to have an offense that is completely loaded where there is not enough room for the ball to go around. With cooper there are 4 legitimate weapons in Decker, Marshall, Cooper/White and Amaro. The jets have never been loaded offensively and the timing works great. When Marshall/Decker's contracts are due to expire then Cooper/White will be eligible for his extension.

I wouldn't say never, but its been a LONG time, about thirty years since Al Toon and Wesley Walk)er were one of the leagues scariest outside receiver duos, with a Pro Bowl receiving TE in Mickey Shuler, and Kurt Sohn as the third WR in the slot. A lot of young Jets fans don't know about Sohn because his career was cut short by a blown out knee, but he was one of the fastest white guys I've ever seen and he had terrific hands. Jets found him as an undrafted free agent out of Fordham and Wesley Walk)er (one of the most feared deep threats in all of football) once said "Kurt Sohn was faster than me before he hurt his knee." Then, to compliment all that, we had a legit franchise RB in Freeman McNeil. Thats the last time we had an offense that was really loaded, and that was about the mid 80's.

uc, not a lot of people remember Sohn because he blew out his knee in year two and was never the same. He still played seven years for the Jets, mostly as a role player, and he never recaptured the speed that he had at Fordham. The team had high hopes for him before he got hurt.

Hector is one of my all-time favorite Jets. That was before free agency, so he couldn't go anywhere else, stuck as the #2 behind Freeman (not that he ever complained about, NEVER, he was a class act), but that guy definitely could have started and been a franchise back on at least half the teams in the league. Our #2 was better than their starters.

I think drafting a WR in first will be tempting....but I still think they go OLB?EDGE rusher...and this is why...

part of the draft process is figuring out...which position WR or OLB would you better have a chance to address in 2nd or later....I think there are a plethora of WR, all of which in the right system can be difference makers....I think after the top 4-5 edge rushers...there is a little drop off..and not that some others arent some diamonds in the rough..just think logically. How many playoff games has Megatron, Julio Jones, AJ Green, even Dez Bryant won? not too many...plus with the lingering QB situation..the WR is still dependent on the QB for the most part..so get a monster rusher..that can help all the other guys in the defense..by taking less attention to Sheldon, Mo, Snacks, and since the secondary should be better..QB's will have to potentially hold the ball longer looking for guys and more time for sacks.....just my take.....

this of course goes out window..if they love Mariota

Plan A is none of it matters unless we have a QB. Whether Mariota's the savior or not I'd still take my chances.

Plan B is the best pass rusher possible (Ray, Fowler, Beasley) and maybe the missing link to having a sick defense.

Plan C is trade down and get the best offensive tackle.
