1st Player to Drop in Draft

Then we should trade back. Vikings and Cleveland will try trading up for White or Cooper if they fall to us...we could still trade back and land beasely, Dupree, gregory, or ray...

I don't agree that the Vikes are looking for a WR. They have needs at LG, CB and seem to have oddly been linked to Gregory despite having a double digit sack guy in Everson Griffen. They just signed Mike Wallace and love Charlie Johnson. I know this since my dad's a big Viking fan and I follow them a bit.

Im honestly not sold we need to draft a WR that high at all. We need QB, OLB, and RB more than WR, IMO...but WR would probably be #4 on my list. My "preference," would be to complete the defense with a stud pass rusher to play opposite Coples and learn from Pace and go RB/WR later. I do think there are only 10 WRs I'd be excited to see us add, its not as deep as last year's draft. I dont think you'll see as many non-first rd stud Wrs in this draft as last year...hell, no one even talked that much about Latimer, Robinson, or Moncreif from last year's draft class at WR...wait till the league sees them this year. I think they'll be mentioned with names like Watkins, Evans, and beckham. Matthews and Lee may have bigger years this year also. I dont see that level of talent bleeding into 3rd, 4th, 5th rds like last year. is Stephon Diggs a nice player we can take rd 3 or 4? Sure. is he Jarvis Landry, Moncreif, Bruce Ellington, or Martavis Bryant from last year's draft? Not in my opinion. There isnt players with the upside in this draft at WR in those rds that last year's class had. Last year's draft class had #1 caliber Wrs going 4th and 5th rds. You wont see that again for some time, IMO.

QB, OLB, RB, and IMO, we need to start developing a young tackle. Brick isn't getting any younger and there is no heir on our roster.

Man, Johnson is the goods, isn't he? Love that kid. I don't think they believe in Patterson. I never liked him and preferred his teammate, Justin Hunter, who was skinny but could at least run the full route tree. patterson and his 5 cent brain can still only run 1 route, the go route. He was a frustrating player to watch in college and continues to be for the vikes. Glad he's their problem...they do need cb bad though. I have an uncle who is a big vikes fan so I've been watching them for awhile myself (John Randle was awesome ;))!

Kevin, Yesterday you had us taking Kevin White WR. Pick one and stick with it. I'm going to be heart broken again and go with Cooper. Remember 2 drafts ago, everyone wanted Dion Jordan the best pass rusher since L.T. ? Ask the Flipper fans how Jordan has worked out. Hit or miss taking a DE and moving him to OLB. Cooper is the only sure pick in this draft. I do think this Randy Gregory deal has screwed us, because he was a top 5 pick. Geez..

Yeah, Patterson is out of there. I think they've been hopeful to dangle him to move up and get Gregory. Not necessary now. But yeah, the coaches have been raving about Johnson. Norv Turner, when in Cleveland saw his potential and when he arrived in Minnesota convinced Spielman to snatch him off the Brown's PS. BTW, Kyle Shanahan had warned his GM not to place Johnson on the PS for fear of his being taken. It was one reason Kyle cited as wanting to leave Cleveland as soon as the season ended. He was pissed about that.

Other then QB, OLB seems to be the choice as was WR last year. I don't care who the GM is. This is the JETS! Expect the unexpected when it comes to our 1st Rd pick in the Draft.

i think RB is a big, and largely over-looked, need for this team
In my last two mocks, this one and the prior one, I had Tevin Coleman going off the board directly ahead of us to Jacksonville in RD 2, but if he's there for us at 37 it would be a great pick in my view. I think you would be getting a legit franchise caliber feature back. Twenty years ago, before RB's were devalued, he would have been a TOP 20 lock.

That aside, if I didn't take Grayson in the 3rd here, there were still some pretty good RB's left on the board; Duke Johnson, Jeremy Langford, Ameer Abdullah, and the underrated guy I really like, David Johnson (Northern Iowa).

Just a note about RB's which Football51 has already sent our way about Corey Grant, who caught the Patriot's eye in his workout at Auburn and someone to consider with our 4th rounder if that's not too low as I suspect he's on the Jets radar to give the team much needed speed. Marshall, Decker and Ivory aren't exactly burners. Watch for this guy to potentially become a Jet as well as a quick WR like Dorsett or Lockett:

03/07/2015 - 2015 Pro Days: Five Takeaways from Week One...5. Combine snubs impress: Every year dozens of players are drafted who weren't invited to the NFL combine. Last year, for example, 32 players were selected after not being invited to Indianapolis. Among this year's snubs who boosted their chances at hearing their names called in the draft after impressive Pro Day workouts were Auburn running back Corey Grant, Texas A&M cornerback Deshazor Everett and Utah State linebacker Zach Vigil. The 5-foot-9, 201-pound Grant didn't see a lot of playing time behind Cameron Artis-Payne at Auburn but certainly stole the show at the Tigers' Pro Day, showing off his explosiveness in the 40-yard dash (4.30 seconds), vertical jump (37 inches), broad jump (10-7), and bench press (22 reps), while also showing soft hands during pass-catching drills. - Rob Rang, NFLDraftScout.com

I agree, Cy. I don't want any experiments with the #6 pick. I want no part of a player where his "natural position" is debatable at the NFL level. No tweeners, guys who'll get pushed around by left tackles, or slow hulkish types. I want a prototypical OLB pass rusher, Mariota, or Amari Cooper. (I'm still sort of torn on Mariota, and I realize he's somewhat of a gamble, but I won't have a problem with it if Macc likes him).

LOL, I know I'm getting old and I've always been crazy, but my gut is telling me that Geno & Gailey will click. Things were beginning to slow down for Geno. With that said we need to draft QB's every year, and with 2 7th rounders why not take a shot @ Sean Mannion 6'5"/230 from Oregon St. or Taylor Heinicke 6'1"/210 from Old Dominion.

My friend, you're not keeping up. Please find a post where I predicted the Jets will take White. Calling White my favorite player, as I am saying for the second time, doesn't make that my prediction for the Jets. If you wanted my true prediction, ask for it, dont assign it.

I have been predicting a OLB the entire time, because Bowles has said the last two weeks he's completing his defense in the draft...the only thing his defense is missing is a pass rushing OLB. if you want my "true prediction," it will be Fowler if he falls to #6 , if he's not there at #6 , Cooper or White will be, so I predict the Jets trade back to a team like the Vikes or Cleveland who want to move up, add White or Cooper, and we still get Beasely, Ray, Dupree, or Gregory, acquire extra picks, and fill the need of pass rusher. That's my prediction.

If we trade back with Cooper still on the board, I would $hit my pants ! And with Gregory fading out of the top 10, my bet is that both Fowler & Beasley could both be gone. Ray is a DE and Dupree a 270 monster but a little of a reach @ 6.

I think Ray will be rated behind Dupree in the draft. The mock drafts aren't science and I can recall a lot they whiffed on. I recall years back when Dwight Freeney was called a big reach and the Patriots selecting Jerod Mayo was considered the same. If you think as an organization that a player will be a solid, productive contributor that fits what you do, you go for him.

The game tape shows Dupree as a very active disruptor with great closing speed. I had him as our guy before Gregory self-destructed...above Beasley as well. I'm just torn if we have to pass on Cooper but I'm now thinking it's the best decision to go pass rusher no matter who's there. White? He's off my board. He's going to bust.

I suppose it depends...hah....on what someone will give for the right to pick Cooper at the 6.

If we can turn the pick into a sufficiently good package of picks, I would not be troubled. We do not have a desperate need now for a WR. Cooper should be terrific, but if we can get say Clevelands #12 pick and their 2nd round pick and their 1st next year, you have to do it....I think. Heck if I know what the package would be.....

I'd do it for their 1st and 2nd Rd pick. We'd have 3 picks in the first 50 players of this draft. You could come out of the first 2 rounds of this draft with Beasley OLB at 12, Strong WR at 37, and Gordon RB at 44...instead of just cooper and insert 2nd Rd talent here at a position of need because we didn't take a position of need at 6...

exactly my thinking.

now i don't know if cleveland would give up their #12 and a 2nd to move up for 6, but that's the deal i would do and take pretty much the same players (or at least address those 3 positions - i doubt gordon lasts to the #44 pick). but if we could do that trade, i'd take dupree or beasley at 12 (assuming one of them is there) and then a WR/RB combo in the 2nd. hopefully we could snag the texas OT in the 3rd who is injured (redshirt him) and take a QB in the 4th.
