Revis Declining?

Probably true a bit

But with Cro and Williams and hopefully Dee and Dex developing, there is help on the field that doesn't require 24 to cover 50% of the field plus Bowles' 2015 defense vs Rex' 1988...my dad's defense

Skrine is the guy that makes me the most happy. We already know that Revis and Cro can be great, but think how they will help Skrine who has proven way more than Milliner or Dex. I think Revis has 2 more really good years in him and Cro has one. Hopefully Milliner can develop and take over for Cro in 2 years and then we have one more year of Revis with Skrine and Milliner and Dex in slot. Even if Revis has lost a step this is the best scenario for our CB's from a learning standpoint.

Great succession planning in theory, just hope that everyone heals and stays healthy. If you set up each position group like MM has set up the secondary, then you are building for sustainable success.

In theory is the best we can hope for.

The DB's will be rated IMHO.... on how well Pryor , Gilchrest and the other safety's evolve and grow into the new system.

I have no problem with Revis "declining" as long as it only goes down to a Pro-Bowl level.

We may not need him to cover 50% of the field, but we DO need him to be a difference maker that covers for other player's weaknesses, and allows Bowles to do things he couldn't do with "regular" CBs.

If Revis can't do that, then yes -- we made a mistake signing the guy . . .

He's a top 3 CB that respects his brand. Any slippage in play is a slippage in his brand. Revis wants to be known as an all time great. I have zero concerns with slippage in play. Mac said it best, we just re acquired a 29 year old Champ Baily like player. See what Woodson is doing in Oakland. When you got it, you got it. Revis has "it." He will be playing at 36-37 at FS at a very high level and you never have concerns about his work ethic...again, because he WILL NOT adversely impact Revis the brand. Count on that.

Our safeties are jokers, complete wild cards, that can be used as the defense pleases. I don't agree with the above. We acquired 3 press man coverage CBs so we don't have to rely on safeties for coverage. Yesterday Bowles said 75% of snaps his D will be in nickel, ie 75% of the time all 3 cBs will be on the field, meaning essentially Pryor will be like a LB and Gilchrist, who's an excellent blitzer, could be anywhere...because he's also awesome in coverage. To me, our secondary from a coverage standpoint will 90% come from these 3 stud CBs and our safety play will be a very fluid situation and vary on a week-to-week basis. Against the bills they may spend the entire game in the box and against New England we may keep 4 in coverage (including Gilchrist) and only Pryor in the box and covering RBs. The addition of this level of CB talent gives Bowles more flexibility with his safeties and less responsibilities for them in one area or the other. Just my feeling.

If Revis is declining, I haven't seen it. He was instrumental in the Patriots winning the Super Bowl. I didn't see any signs of slowing down.

It will be interesting to see how Antonio Allen is used, and whether Bowles can get him back on track. Will he be the 6th DB, or will that be a CB like Milliner/McDougle? Bowles has some very interesting pieces at his disposal, and it'll be fun to see how it all works.

He may be slightly on the decline, but this would never have been brought up if the Pats kept him. Reports of his decline are made greater because of the team he joined.

I'm not too concerned about Revis' (or Cro's) abilities declining.
Revis is a technique / instincts guy anyway; he's not a "burner" who relies just on speed and quickness.

I will say I'm super excited about the Secondary this year.
Just think of who we had last year, no comparison.

I'm more concerned about Cro declining, because of his reliance on speed and his problems with one wheel. Revis has the knee, but like you said, he's not a guy who is reliant on his speed.

I still think the last year or two of the Revis contract may not happen, depending on how it's structured. But I do not see some serious decline in him in the short-term.

Agreed, Cro is a very athletic corner but he's also very savvy having played 9 years in the league.
I'm hoping we get at least 3 good years out of both of them (crossing fingers).

Experienced Corners (and older players in general) know how to to stay productive once they've lost a step.
They draw on their knowledge from years of playing the position and do not have to think as much on the field.
Thinking too much can make an athlete slower.
Sometimes younger more inexperienced athletes have this problem; they player slower due too much thinking.
Revis and Cro won't have this issue and should gel into Coach Bowles defensive scheme easily.

It's funny this topic comes up now because all season Pats fans heard many Jets fans call out Revis as "not what he used to be." Maybe that's just fan hate because he was with the Patriots, maybe some actually based it on what they saw when he was with the Jets, but I can say that never once during the season did I see anything short of one of the best CB's in the game. If he has lost a step, I certainly didn't see it on the field, and you certainly didn't see the Seahawks target Revis during the last play of the Super Bowl. Now will he decline in the future, all players do, but I haven't seen anything that would suggest it's happening now.

Agreed. Also, PFF wrote a similar article on Brady last year. How did that turn out? Not to mention that PFF rated Kyle Wilson as the #1 slot cb in the league last year. Now, anyone who actually watches Wilson will know that isn't even in the realm of accuracy. In a passing league where cb's are at a premium, Wilson is still on the street. PFF's ranking are very subjective to say the least.

What you heard was a fan base that saw how he performed in Tampa, and, along with coming off a bad knee injury, issued criticism.

Was there bad blood? Yes. Of course there would be in that situation.

I would like to see one post, though, where you refrain from attacking Jets fans.

The only real solution to the increasing growing grogan14 problem here is for a Jet fans united no response policy.

If we don't respond, he will get tired and bored and slither back to patsfags.com

If we respond, you can almost guarantee the arrival of TX, shasta, patsfanken, PatriotReign and the worst subhuman board destroyer of them all.. Vinny Patrolie/gronkwelkhead/guido yastramsky or whatever the hell he calls himself now
