Our safeties are jokers, complete wild cards, that can be used as the defense pleases. I don't agree with the above. We acquired 3 press man coverage CBs so we don't have to rely on safeties for coverage. Yesterday Bowles said 75% of snaps his D will be in nickel, ie 75% of the time all 3 cBs will be on the field, meaning essentially Pryor will be like a LB and Gilchrist, who's an excellent blitzer, could be anywhere...because he's also awesome in coverage. To me, our secondary from a coverage standpoint will 90% come from these 3 stud CBs and our safety play will be a very fluid situation and vary on a week-to-week basis. Against the bills they may spend the entire game in the box and against New England we may keep 4 in coverage (including Gilchrist) and only Pryor in the box and covering RBs. The addition of this level of CB talent gives Bowles more flexibility with his safeties and less responsibilities for them in one area or the other. Just my feeling.
