I agree. I don't like the fist. A sign of solidarity or being united would be more in line with maybe a handshake of Jet fan brothers. The fist might indicate to outsiders that this is a forum of fighters. If you want one hand, make it one of those ridiculously large We're #1 cut out of a hand they sell at the stadiums. Or a picture of two Jets doing the mid-air chest bump or something. Not the fist. What's the fist all about anyway?

A name I would throw out there if it's not being used is The Sack Exchange. It could be a play on words regarding exchange of ideas and still keep the vaunted Jets nickname alive. I just looked and it seems no one is using it.

Admin probably is not open to name suggestions anymore, since they seem pretty settled on the one in the thread title. But I will add to my first gripe that I don't like the new name either. To me, the one imperative in selecting a new name would be one that retains the NYJF letters. There is a legacy to those letters, and I have referred to this site with just those letters on other sites. Even if the letters change in meaning, I think it would be worthwhile to preserve the legacy.

The same link also talks about how the logo promotes solidarity and unity.

It's unfortunate that certain political groups have given it the wrong meaning. I understand though.

Yes, I think your post comes pretty close to explaining why I find the fist so offensive. And let me tell you, as a libertarian it's pretty tough to offend me. But perhaps that symbol is in the back of my mind of those black athletes in a long-ago Olympics on the medals podium with their fists extended vertically and their heads bowed. Did not seem to say "we're proud to be Americans."

We tried but it's hard. We can't have the New York Jets or NY Jets in our name legally. We can probably get away with it because the jets would never sue their own fanbase especially a fan club like we are now but we wanted to go a different direction.

It's solidarity, its strength. We as fans have been divided by performance, by the media for decades. This is one voice and personally for me the fist was always a greeting, especially back in the military where I spent far too many years.

Look past it. You need to because while this is a community we can't get into the "design by committee" mode because if we do, nothing will be accomplished.

its not a racial statement,
its a fist.
Not hostile,
just a raised fist

And besides, even though it isn't hostile, it brings me back to another thought. Aren't we as Jets fans tired of eating sh*t from other teams fans, from the media with the SOJ story line? Maybe we should be pissed and put our back to each other and be fans.

What does that have to do with a logo?

That's been used over and over again as a political statement and some of us find it aggressive and we stated so. You trying to tell us we shouldn't feel this way? It's our opinion. Deal with it. You don't have to agree but deal with it. It IS hostile to me and others. And explain how the curling of a fist is friendly. Fists are used for fighting. I'd like to hear this...

The fact that there are positive examples of a clenched fist does not ameliorate the fact that the symbol is deeply offensive to some. A good example along these lines is the Confederate battle flag. There are many for whom this is a symbol of heroism and inspiration. But there are others who are deeply offended by it. Which group would it make more sense to accommodate?
