In person to see the Seminoles pro day. Furthermore it is being reported that the Jets have one of the biggest contingents in attendance of any team in the league.

I wonder who they are there to see.

Obvious choice is Winston but I think their chance of drafting him is nil.

I would watch out for Cam Erving. He is back to back ACC OL of the year, winning the award both years for his play at LT. Of course, right now he is being projected as a top notch center for his dominating mid-year move to the position in his senior season. Can play both and can probably guard too.

Rashad Green is certainly someone who I would keep an eye on in rounds 3 or 4.

A wildcard may be rb Karlos Williams. He's 6'1, 230 and ran a 4.48 in Indy. He can catch out of the backfield very well. Downside is he doesn't seem to have great instincts for the position. Vision is below average.

Hard to imagine the Jets go corner in the draft, but if they do FSU has two very good ones in PJ Williams and Ronald Darby.

Interesting report surfaced yesterday that the Jets were one of the teams that spent the most time with Karlos Williams.

I'm on record saying it's a sure thing that we are taking a RB in the draft. Karlos is probably somewhere around a 5th round prospect with a huge upside. He is not a natural RB at all (played safety in high school and most of college). But he is probably the best athlete coming out of Florida State this year and that is saying something. This guy is a top flight special teams player (kick return and coverage) and will be that at a minimum in the NFL. 6'1 230 with a sub 4.5 40, and can catch the football. If their interest in Karlos is legit then that may mean they are thinking about addressing other positions with the first 3 picks. In that case, my guess would be OLB, QB, OL, with RB and WR addressed in the middle rounds.

Another interesting report surfaced that the Jets showed quite a bit of attention to Ronald Darby. In addition, they have scheduled him for a visit.

Darby would be a candidate at 37 if the Jets were so inclined to pick him up. I personally just don't see it. While I think he is an instant upgrade to Skrine at nickel, it would make the addition of Skrine a giant waste of money and really call into question whether Macc knows what he's doing.

Jets are stacked with corners: Revis, Cro, Skrine, Milliner, McDougle, Walls. I just can't see us continuing to strengthen a position that is already considerably strong, when we have so many legitimate weaknesses.

As an FSU fan who watches them closely, and I am honestly asking your opinion on this, do you think Darby's playing style lends itself to a McCourty/Gilchrist type role where he could play a high-bred CB/S position? Is he physical enough to have that type flexibility?

Now, we have AAllen and Gilchrist already in those molds, but I wonder if the Jets may be interesting in his flexibility and ability to hide his responsibilities in the secondary. In all honesty, I think thats the best part of the Gilchrist signing...is with Skrine at CB, Gilchrist can do anything.

Also, we still dont know how the Jets value Milliner, McDougle, and Walls...if at all.

.

No, not even close. Darby is one of the least physical corners I can ever remember at FSU. His man coverage skill is a 9 out of 10, but he offers next to nothing in assisting in run support or being a backfield enforcer.

On the other hand, his teammate, CB PJ Williams, is all of that. PJ is a big hitter, has very good size for a corner, ran consistently in the 4.3's at FSU's pro day, and verts 40+. He is not as fluid as Darby but he makes more plays (in fairness teams didn't throw at Darby much) and he is very effective blitzing off the edge.

If the Jets want to grab a safety/corner hybrid then he is ideal; not Darby. Who knows, maybe they are just trying to throw folks off the trail by pretending to be interested in Darby while really coveting Williams. Either way, I would be surprised if either are Jets in about 30 days.

hahaha, as I was reading your post and I made it through the first 2 paragraphs, my next thought was my reply would be what ended up being your last 3 sentences.

Williams was widely considered a 1st rd prospect in preseason mocks...do you think one or both fall to rd 2? I honestly dont like this CB class much and havent followed it closely. Obviously Waynes is in the Big 10, so impossible to ignore, and I followed senior bowl week on Sirius and watched the game and fell in love with Rollins, but outside of those 2, the position is very fuzzy for me and I wont be dedicating too much time too it with the way free agency went...but I say that to say this, wont be shocked if we add another Cb and S in this draft. I dont think the new regime is sold on Milline,r mcDougle, Walls, Williams, Allen, Milez, or many guys they didnt bring in themselves or were being developed under Rex...Im not saying they wont keep some (they will), but Bowles and Mac will want their own guys for their system, its natural. We will cut some of the guy referenced and they will naturally sign with the Bills. It is what it is, so I wont be "shocked" if we draft a Cb or S, just like you said, not likely that high (6 or 37)...but anytime lower, the positions are likely in play as they go BPA.

Where is Cam Erving slotted at this point? A guy with his versatility would be an interesting add maybe at 37, but no sooner.

There are a couple guys rising fast on boards and he is one of them. Dominated at LT and Center in college. Extremely rare. I think he leaves the board in the 1st round. The 3 seminoles I'm highest on are Winston, Cam, and Rashad Green.

Regarding PJ, I think he and Darby both get taken in round 2. I like PJ a lot as a player but I don't want the Jets to draft him, only because I hope we are going QB, RB, or WR in round 2. If a great OL slips (like Cam) then I would be OK with that. But I just don't see DB a good pick in that slot.

I know they may have their doubts on Milliner, McDougle, and Walls, but that's why they got Revis, Cro, and Skrine. You have to figure that one of the first three will amount to something, if not a couple of them. Just no reason to be looking CB in this year's draft.

Pointdexter, they may draft two rb's this year. Right now, we don't have one under contract beyond this season.

Agree.

should go late first early 2nd. If they get him at 37 it will be a very good pick. Mediocre LT, potential excellent C. Might even be able to play G in an emergency. Me thinks he is the reason for all the FSU attention

Cam has now moved all the way up to #14 on Kiper's big board. This is probably not a product of anything else but Kiper getting more intel on where teams have had Cam all along. He will almost certainly be off the board when our pick at 37 comes around.

Creating a new thread on this topic, Bowles made a very interesting comment on RBs today in this draft as well as our own Powell and Ivory...

This will be an interesting development to watch. He was never in any trouble at his time at FSU that I'm aware of. Will be interesting to see if this has any impact at all.

If he drops to round 3, with Bowles love of DB's, it's now something to keep an eye on.
