If we were going to go to a game in MetLife next season, where should we stay?

Never been to a Jets game in MetLife but my wife and I finally sold a house we've had on the market almost 2 years - we promised ourselves we'd go to a Jets game in MetLife if/when it sold as our reward.

Anyway, where should we stay? Should we stay in the city and take the train over or stay in Newark or maybe somewhere close to MetLife? Are there any hotels where you can walk to MetLife?

Thanks for any advice

Like most things in life, it depends on budget. There is nothing like staying in NYC and being there at night. It would make the trip so more memorable. Locally there is nothing. After all, it's New Jersey, not NYC :) It's easy to spend other peoples money so I say stay in midtown. You'll have trouble near the holidays getting a room let alone at a bargain but you really want a September or October game to avoid a cold weather game, whoch could be unpleasant at times and may get a glare or two from the wife.

Watch the hotel prices, they vacillate wildly throughout the year. The best bet for deals is Hot Wire, but you have to actually buy the room before knowing the hotel you stay at. You do get the price, star rating, area and user recommendation (sort by that first). We've gotten some amazing deals (the Waldorf at 75% off) and some disasters (a hotel room so small that Tyrion Lannister would not have fit in it). Once you decide, repost and people will give you all sorts of suggestions

To go to the game, you would probably take the NJ transit under MSG. we tried it once and disliked it but that's another story. I think that there are buses somewhere also but not sure if they still run. Some budget minded folk stay in Jersey City and use the PATH train. Not sure how that works either.

If you get to the stadium early enough perhaps you can hook up with someone's tailgate, which is often the best part of the day.

For tickets, it will depend on the opponent, obviously. There are cheap seats ($50 each) that you can get from the Jets but they are in the Upper end zone and waaaaay too high. Fan Snap will give the your best bet at resales (includes Stub Hub and all the other majors in one search)

New Giants Stadium is not the most interesting stadium to visit, but once in the gate, you'll still be outside and there are a few things to look at and activities, such as kicking an extra point, throwing footballs, food trucks (the better of the mediocre foods in the stadium) before you go up.

Once you decide to go to your seat, be careful that you use the right access as sometimes the clubs block off access to the rest of the deck (I.e. Mezzanine)

The earlier you plan, the better chances you'll have for researching the best prices and tickets. Schedule in 2-3 weeks. Give yourself a couple of choices if you can.

Hope this helps a bit

Hey Sarge - I can sell you two tickets at face value for whatever game you choose. Thing is we are trying to setup a tailgate for the site so I suggest if possible try to hold off until that. If you were to come to that game then I obviously wouldn't sell you those tix lol.

As for hotels, not sure.

Stay in city. Take bus from Port Authority to game and back.

There are many somewhat moderate hotels in Midtown (Courtyard. Hilton Inn, et al) that won't break your bank and you can find half price Broadway show tickets at TKTS at 47th and Broadway.

Don't ruin your visit by staying in dreadful Hackensack or Newark

if your budget can afford it, definitely stay in the city and make a full weekend out of it. there's really nothing to do in NJ, whereas the city has tons of greats shows and museums and restaurants, etc...

you can either take a bus from port authority or take a train from penn station (you will need to take 2 trains, but it's pretty easy on game day...just follow the mobs of people). i prefer the train (although i was a complete nightmare for the super bowl, which i was lucky enough to go to). but for regular games, it's pretty easy and relatively quick.

Thanks for the awesome information everyone! Once you decide on a tailgate game, I'll try to see if we can make it to that game. That'd be very cool.

Been some years since I've gone to a game but we always stay at the Hilton I believe its called. It is right across the highway from the stadium. Within walking distance and very convenient. Sorta pricey but if your only staying for a day or two it may not be that bad. Nice rooms and hotel period. Think you and the wife will enjoy it. Only set back is they have a gift shop there with mostly Giants stuff in it.

OK. You've heard from the New York guys. Now here's some advice from a former Jersey guy. If all you want is to go to the game and not go to Manhattan, there are several places around the stadium where you can stay and save a bundle compared with NY hotel rates. The Hilton is great, but it can be expensive. Do a google search for hotels in East Rutherford. If you also want to go to Manhattan (really the best place in the world), get a hotel in Jersey City near the PATH trains. The PATH trains can have you at either Penn Station or near the World Trade Center in about 20-30 minutes for just a few dollars. The PATH trans let you out right in the NY subway system, so you can go pretty much anywhere in the city for just another few dollars. Getting from the hotel to the stadium can also be done using public transportation, either bus or train. Best thing would probably be to ask at the hotel desk for the best way to get to the stadium. BTW, if you like fine dining, a great place in East Rutherford is the Cafe Matisse. This is upscale pricey dining, but it's worth it. When the wife and I do a game, we often will dine there. Not on game day, but on the night before.

They have motels on the Jersey side around Secaucus.
You can pay by the hour, and many have mirrors on the ceilings - or so the signage out front, along the 1, say.
HYATT™ admits to being curious and actually spending 10 minutes investigating, to establish the veracity of the claims.
It is true, but no Pulaski Highway, which was home to at least one quaint little old-timey motel with cute cottages that still had 1950s decor and were in fact quite homey - lying at the end of a rather seedy stretch of no-tell places catering to the hourly trades.
