Erin Henderson, Stevan Ridley, Leger Douzable...

Wow. Macc isn't messing around. FA just keeps on turning. A lot of good depth moves. We'll be safeguarded if the injuries start stacking up. Incredible depth in most areas.

Was not happy with signing at first, but after reading all the posts of everyone. True, we are adding good depth.

Also likely takes top backs off the list. I'm not counting on Gurley, Gordon, or even DuKE Johnson are in our futures with Ivory, Powell, and Ridley in the fold.

Ridley can play. He had acl repair in Oct. it'll most likely take him until June-July to be close to 100%. You cannot ever have too much talent on a NFL roster. If the price is right-maybe a one year "show me deal", this would be a good move for depth and insurance.

My thoughts exactly. Love Ivory, he's a beast, however you can never have enough talent and he can catch the ball. Not only that, we don't have a qb, so we will probably be running a good amount. :(

1. The guy has upside - if fully recovered, he can play
2. The deal is short term
3. Adding solid depth - vital, as folks have discussed
4. Creating draft flexibility - this front office will not have to reach for needs in the draft - they will be in a position to follow their board, take BPA, let the draft come to them, etc.

Not a big deal, but all good - and consistent with other recent signings.

Bullseye!

Quality depth, the operative word being "quality", is absolutely essential in this league, cause at some point you need just about everyone on your roster to contribute. Guys will go down just as sure as the sun rises at dawn, and if you don't have people who can step in and produce at a fairly high level, thats usually the difference between making the playoffs or not making the playoffs, assuming you had a playoff caliber team to begin with.

But its not only that, this game is so taxing and this league is so physically demanding that best case scenario allows you to rotate players without missing a beat, so everyone stays fresh, which can only be done if you have quality depth and you are not taking a big dip in talent when you rotate players in and out.

Over the past few years our depth has gotten worse and worse, to the point where we had a bunch of backups throughout the roster who were not even NFL players in my view. At best they belonged on somebodies practice squad, and we were one injury away from these guys getting significant playing time, and when they came in to give the veterans a blow, the drop-off was as steep as a canyon.

This was totally lost on Idzik, but Mac gets it and he is stacking this roster with quality depth. He added some impact players like Revis and Marshall, some quality starters, but almost as important he has stacked this roster with quality veterans on one year deals, guys who can give you a fairly high level of production in backup roles or start in a pinch if someone goes down without turning a strength into a weakness. These are some shrewd one year deals that will pay dividends over the course of a 16+ game NFL grind.

I look at the depth chart right now, position by position, and I see a team that is light years ahead of what we had last year or the year before that. Now I see a roster than can sustain the war of attrition that is an NFL season.

PS. Don't sleep on the Bowen addition too, if he's healthy that dude can play.

posts like this was why we recruited you excellent analysis and the absolute truth. I kept saying rex destroyed our roster obv with the help of the gm's but he still had a say.

Love this signing. Ridley can play. Once his knee is 100%, Jet fans will be surprised at his ability. This is an under the radar move that does some positive things:
1) Adds depth to a position that has a high injury rate
2) Removes the need to have to use a draft pick on the position
3) Creates more competition on the roster which is always a good thing
4) Adds a strong locker room presence

I'm impressed with these one year "depth" signings. Creating competition and roster depth will help upgrade a roster that was woefully thin on talent last year. Some of these won't pan out, but if the Jets hit on half of these signings, the team will be vastly improved.

agree 100%. Definitely excited for the draft after FA signings

Bad move in my opinion. There is more talent available in the draft.

not sure how this precludes them from taking a RB. they only have 3 RBs, and ivory and powell are on 1-year deals. i assume ridley is also getting a minimal deal with low-to-no guarantees. so imo, nothing prevents them from taking a RB in the draft.

well none of the jets RBs are under contract for 2016 and beyond, so i don't see how this takes the top RBs off the board. i think they will go BPA, and if the BPA at #37 is todd gurley for example, i don't see our current RBs blocking that pick.

Well it seems to me either bowles and Mac are helluva salesman or all the people that say they like playing for rex so much was just lip service. It looks like people really want to play for bowles.

I'm not sure if it has anything to do with Rex or Coach Bowles, it's all about the money. Phase one free agents are looking for the biggest pot of gold, and phase two, unemployed free agents are just looking for a home.

Go Jets...Cyborg

Oh I got it....when he was a Pat, he was a wicked supah RB, one of the best in football.

Now that he is NOT a Pat, he's a fumbler with constant injuries!!

Typical chowd analysis

No he was always a talented kid with injuries and fumbling problems, the only difference now is he's the Jets talented kid with injuries and fumbling problems.

Should be OK. Healthy according to all reports and finally receiving good coaching and all[emoji1]

Exactly....I think it does just the opposite. Looks to me like Gailey doesn't think the right long term back is currently on the roster.

Can't hurt, he can either live up to his potential or be cut by opening day.

I'm not so sure. We still don't have a rb under contract beyond this season.
