This may be the burning question here.
How do these guys grade out compared to each other? Put them all in the same draft and how do they fall? What if they were all in this years draft?
Anyone want to take a crack at the breakdown?
without going into detail as i am pressed for time at the moment i would say
mariotta---seems smart enough and the willingness to learn, I have no doubts he can transfer to be a very reliable QB.
sanchez --------can make all the throws but I put him below mariotta because of his lack of playing time.
geno-------geno would be behind guys like petty and maybe even manion in this draft he just is not a nfl qb, college yes but nfl I don't see it.

Seems harsh for Geno. His biggest problem is likely the same issues with Mariota. Question is will Mariota be given time to sit and learn unlike Geno and how fast will he progress.
In a weak draft class Geno was projected very high but ultimately went in the appropriate draft area if you ask me. His improvement has been slow but he has improved. He would have been better served sitting as we all know.
Sanchez was the franchise if you ask me. He was probably taken a little high based on his resume but you have to reach for a QB if you think he is your guy. He too could have been better off sitting a year but for the most part I think he was mishandled by the staff. Lack of ability to coach QBs and didn't keep talent around him was the down fall. I will forever view it as a blown chance. We finally had our guy and we messed it up.
Mariota is a different animal. Mentally I think he is about as good as you can ask for. My biggest fear like everyone else and probably because of Geno is can his game transfer. Can this staff do a better job with him then with the last two guys? Could they possible do worse?
For the record, I don't want Winston at all. I was on the fence with him but I recently saw gamechangers on NFL Network and his head isn't right. I don't think he has matured much and he is full of himself. To me he will bust after some early success.
The problem with this scenario is that hindsight is 20/20. Anyone can claim to have known all about Sanchez and Geno, but they didn't know anything more than anyone else. Everyone's a genius in hindsight. And when the pick was made, most fans were optimistic. Whether they admit it or not.
I thought Sanchez was gonna be the guy for us. I liked his brief resume as USC. Geno's drop into round two concerned me a little after all the first round hype he was getting about eight months prior to that draft.
Mariota is somewhat of a risky pick to me. Just based on what I saw of him. I saw some passes sail on him. And I'm a little uneasy about these mobile QB's. He reminds me a little of Kaepernick. Those college numbers aren't going to be duplicated at the NFL level, IMO.
Have to agree 100%I think Geno will suprise a lot of folks once camp begins

We know Mariota can't duplicate his college numbers in the pros just like Geno but that goes without saying.
Knowing he is a risk just like almost an QB do you still take him at #6 ?
I feel like its worth the risk. You have to keep looking for "that" guy. He has good character so you know you aren't going to make a mistake there. If he fails it will be on the field.
Folks seem to forget that Sanchez has a weak arm, which at least is something you can't say about Geno. Now accuracy is another matter, seems neither have that.
I know you didn't start this thread to bash Geno or any QB. It is a thread to compare the three. When I started my thread, it wasn't to bash anyone either but to see how you guys felt about Geno possibly being a QB that is ready to take over this year if he had to. So I get where your coming from with this trust me. I seem to be one of the biggest Geno supporters on this board and this cool. Funny thing is I wanted him gone after last years Buffalo game horror as much as anyone. I still did until I realized the Foles trade was a dead issue, Winston wasn't a possibility for us without a trade of everything we have and Mariota was a risk draft pick at #6 .Two things I want to make clear with why I started this thread.
1- many fans seem to have a fear of drafting a QB high again because of our past. Sanchez and Geno have people thinking, I don't want to go through that again. My thought was if Mariota compared favorable to them maybe some would feel better about drafting him.
2 - Charlie Casserly recently said on NFL Network that he has Winston rated higher than Cam Newton and another QB I forget but not as high as Matt Stafford or Sam Bradford, all of which being first overall picks. I thought this was an interesting way to look at things. Again with our history I thought it might give us some perspective on Mariota.
The intention was not to bash any one QB. For the record I was a big Sanchez supporter and I hated the Geno pick. With that being said like any Jets fan should I support whoever is our QB. Although I did find it difficult with Vick. Bottom line we want to win!
Have to agree 100%
Go Geno
Go Jets
