The Walking Dead is my favorite show. I have also read the comic book which inspired the show.
What do you think the most reason (mid)season finale?
honestly i wasn't that crazy about it..
i didn't think beth was a strong enough character to warrant that large a chunk of the season.. her death felt forced & foolhardy to me.. like the writers felt obligated to kill off one of the regulars before the second half of season five started.. i mean stabbing dawn in the shoulder (the shoulder??) with a pair of scirrors?? what, was she trying to piss the woman off before getting shot to death??
not only that, beth's stunt literally could have gotten all of the "survivors" & noah killed.. so again i thought the writing was sloppy..
but the walking dead is my favorite TV show as well & i'm confident season five will end strong.. what'd you think about the mid season finale??
I was weary at the beginning of the season at the prospect of Beth being the central focus of the season however I was presently surprised by her character growth and how well the actress was able to tackle such a responsibility.
I think the whole point of the season was to show the extent to which people will go when faced with morally ambiguous decisions. All of the characters have been pushed to the limit and we saw how much Rick was willing to sacrifice his own humanity in order to protect his group. I think the writers wanted to show that even the most innocent characters like Beth have to adapt to the post-apocalyptic nature of the world or will die. The fact that Beth did die was to show the audience that there is no place for innocence in this world.
I also believe that her blink and you miss death was supposed to shock the audience in the same way that Rick and his group were shocked. They spent so much time looking for Beth and there she was; we spent so much time following her story hoping she would live and she almost made it. I think her instant death was to show us how fleeting life is and that it could end in an instant.
The one thing that I will agree with you on is that if Beth was going to take a stand, she should have gone out with more of a fight. I don't buy that in a hospital the only surgical weapon she could find was a little pair of scissors. She could have found a surgical knife and aimed for that *****'s neck. I can't wait for the second half of the season because Beth's death is sure to have huge repercussions for the rest of the group.
yeah, i felt cheated beth didn't get some real get back on dawn!! that woman was gashing beth's face like it was a hobby!! & i will admit i did have a WTF kinda reaction to beth's death.. so i would agree the writers achieved there goal as far as shock value was concerned..
i'm trying to get my hands on the walking dead graphic novels.. without spoilers which do you like better, the show or the comic book??
I have always preferred comic books over television and film adaptations because it leaves more up to the individual's imagination and interpretation but then again I might be a bit biased since I'm an English teacher.
Having said that though, The Walking Dead is pretty faithful to the comic books. Without giving too much away, there are some deviations between the comic book and the television. Overall though, I think the show does a really good job. I hate it when an adaptation deviates too much from the source material.
I do recommend if you have the time to try and read a few issues, especially the arc involving the governor. So good.
Who's your favorite character? season?
it would be easy to say rick, daryl, carol or even shane because they're awesome characters.. i'd say michonne's the character that has the most depth in my eyes.. she plays the warrior princess very convincingly as well as being a mother figure for carl.. i. really like their relationship.. still, i would like to see her get back to her kick ass ways again.. soon..
but even after saying all of that, hershel's my favorite.. his character had great conviction, wisdom & selflessness.. just a cool old dude that i still wish was on the show..
my favorite season was season one.. i went years without paying the show any attention at all.. zombies really weren't my thing so out of sight, out of mind right?? then i found myself looking for something to watch on netflix & the rest is history.. LOLz who new!?

It's hard to choose just one. I really like Glenn because I can relate to his character. I feel like if I were in a zombie apocalypse I'd react probably most like him especially circa season one. My all time favorite though is Carol and not because she's boss and badass but because she's had the most character growth and has had the best journey. I mean who what have thought that she would have survived this long and become such a strong character. Definitely a far cry from the Carol of season one.
My favorite season is going to echo my favorite comic arc and that has to be the prison storyline and the governor (Seasons 3 and 4). There were a lot of great stand alone episodes revolving around some amazing characters including Michonne, Hershel, and of course the governor who probably ranks as one of my all time favorite villains.
yeah the governor was my favorite villian.. he was definitely one of the strongest actors on the show.. the leader of the "claimers" was an underrated villian, IMO.. i thought he was interesting..
BTW, do you think morgan will find the group before the season finale?? yet another strong character on a
hell of a show.. looking foward to reading the comics as well..
I definitely think Morgan will cross paths with the group but probably not until the season finale. The episode where he he lost his sanity was one of the best written episodes in my opinion. I think the writers are trying to juxtapose Morgan and Rick because from what we've have seen their roles have been reversed. Morgan seems to be completely sane while Rick seems to have started to become slightly unhinged. It will be interesting to see how they will play off of each other when they meet up again.
