Over the next two weeks, Dalbin Osorio will look at those slots in recent history to see what players have been taken there. Today, we start with the 6th and 37th picks…
6th spot

2000: Corey Simon, DT
2001: Richard Seymour, DT
2002: Ryan Sims, DT
2003: Jonathan Sullivan, DT
2004: Kellen Winslow Jr. TE
2005: Adam Jones, CB
2006: Vernon Davis, TE
2007: LaRon Landry, S
2008: Vernon Gholston, DE
2009: Andre Smith, OT
2010: Russell Okung, OT
2011: Julio Jones, WR
2012: Morris Claiborne, CB
2013: Barkevious Mingo, DE
2014: Jake Matthews, OT

Analysis
Seven Pro Bowlers out of 15 selections means the Jets have about a 50/50 chance of getting one in this slot. 13/15 players selected have been, at worst, productive players in the league. One player is a legitimate Hall of Famer (Richard Seymour), and the last five players taken in this spot have all flashed elite talent at the next level. Russell Okung is a top five player at his position, as is Julio Jones. Barkevious Mingo and Jake Matthews are two ascending players. Andre Smith has been a solid starter for the last five years. We know the Vernon Gholston story. Ryan Sims was an average player, finishing with 8.5 career sacks. Nine out of the 15 players selected were either offensive or defensive linemen.

37th spot
2000: Travis Claredge, OG
2001: Idrees Bashir, FS
2002: Andre Gurode, C
2003: Jon Stinchbomb, OG
2004: Teddy Lehman, LB
2005: Shaun Cody, DT
2006: Jimmy Williams, CB
2007: Eric Weddle, S
2008: Curtis Lofton, LB
2009: Alphonso Smith, CB
2010: Nate Allen, S
2011: Jabaal Sheard, DE
2012: Mitchell Schwartz, OT
2013: Giovani Bernanrd, RB
2014: Ra’Shede Hagemen, DT

Analysis
The best player taken at this spot recently is Eric Weddle, who is a top five safety in the league. This spot has six productive players taken, with Gurode, Stinchbomb, and Weddle being the only Pro Bowlers. Gio Bernard has battled injuries and is not the starter in Cincinnati anymore, but he’s still proven that he can be a productive player. The 6th spot yielded a concentration of lineman, while the 37th spot is all over the place. The one conclusion, at least from a positional standpoint, is a high amount of defensive backs were taken.

What Does It Mean for the New York Jets
No Jet fan would scoff walking out of this draft with their top two selections being Richard Seymour and Eric Weddle-type players. Those would be two home runs and a great start to Mike Maccagnan’s draft tenure here. However, the Jets could still do well for themselves by walking out with high impact players like Julio Jones and Andre Gurode. Both spots are also prime spots to trade out of, potentially for the Jets this year.

Yes, so much better than wasting either pick on a Heisman QB.

I always hate these comparisons about players drafted in same exact positions..I guess its a good feature for some people for an article..but its stupid..all relative to team..player injury history etc....
