Edge Rusher as the Fulcrum of the Jets Draft

The more I look at mock drafts and simulations, the more I think edge rusher is the fulcrum of our draft. There is talent there - available at different levels. We have a need. here is what I mean

Alvin Dupree - I dont think we take him at #6 . He could be the edge rusher if we trade down to later in the first round.

Eli Harold - We could well get him with our second round pick. If we decide to go WR at #6 then harold becomes doable 2nd round pick.

Gregory - wild card - who knows how the jets and other teams assess his risk - the most or one of the most volatile players in the first round.

Fowler, Ray, Beasley - Likely at least one of these guys is there at #6 . Do we like one of them enough as an edge rusher - and as someone who is a true football player who can also play the run and drop into coverage....

I think these decisions will determine a lot for us.

Fowler is the best value at 6, IMO. If he's gone, take the next best player like Cooper or White. Don't reach at 6.

I dont disagree - Could well be that Fowler is gone and if the front office shares that view, we go WR and then hope for harold in round 2.....Dupree wont get to our pick at 37.

The Jets need that edge rusher to complete the defense. Leave a hole anywhere in the D and it marginalizes the talent that is already there. I'd take Fowler, Ray or Beasley over the WR, maybe even Gregory.

Now the same applies to the offense on a lesser basis (except the OL), but the D is our strength and the Jets will live (8-10 wins) or die (4-7 wins) with that and whatever luck the football gods offer the team on O

The Jets pay guys a lot of $$$ to make this decision for us. Thank goodness for that, but one way or another it looks like whoever is picked there might be a wee discussion or two herein.

Then there are the drafts where everyone goes WHAT !?!?!?. Let's hope it's not one of those
