Maybe its me, but our pick should be easy

I totally agree with the premise of this thread.

I've been saying for quite some time that there are four elite blue chippers in this draft, six if you throw in the two QB's, that means we have to walk away with one of them unless we decide to get cute and start reaching for needs.

I think JMMC identified the right six and I totally back his play, even if its Leonard Williams. Thankfully I don't see how he can get past Oakland, so I don't believe its an issue, but if he happens to be the guy who slides to 6, so be it.

That said, I believe it will be Mariota or one of the WR's (Cooper or White). Thats been my position for months and nothing has changed. I still see it as one of those three.

If one of the defensive players slides to 6, I think it will be Fowler and not Williams, and I'd be happy with Fowler.

Seaver......... from Scout? Finally......... welcome aboard. If it's not you, welcome anyway :)[/QUOTE

I second that. The good posters make their way over to the great forums. This place is by far the best board I've seen. A merge of two Jets boards with some really knowledgable Jets fans.

Not sure if you guys/gals agree, but to me there seems to be 6 elite prospects in this draft (in no order): Winston, mariota, Williams, white, cooper, fowler. Being at #6 is a great spot. Assuming we don't trade out, one of these guys has to be there. The jets must draft the BPA at 6 and we should simply take whomever is left out of these 6. Anybody have any thoughts/comments?

Now, I am not enough of a draftnik to know just how deep this draft is with talent. However, I have been told it is rich with linemen, both offensive and defensive.

It seems to me that although I see the need/want to take BPA, trading down would be in our best interests. Mariota is almost surely gone when we pick. But we still need a QB and have quite a few other holes as well.

By trading down, we accumulate more picks in the late 1st and early 2nd round. Those picks will allow us to fill many holes. Even after trading down, we can still hold true to our board in taking the BPA. We could likely pick up a top notch OL and a QB or vice versa.

The thing is, we need a QB, OL, OLB, FB, WR at a very minimum and that is before considering depth.

So assuming Mariota or Winston are gone at 6, I would much rather trade down, accumulate another high pick for next years draft, and fill many holes in this years draft.

Agree Ham and agree Maine. Trade down is a good option if williams does fall to us but assuming no trade partner, you have to take him as he's clearly going to be the BPA at that point. Most pundits have him rated as the #1 overall talent. Passing on him would be akin to Brady over Sapp.

Agree on taking the BPA

Respectfully disagree on Gurley and Ray.

I have Ray just outside the bluechip 7 at 9 and Gurley in the teens

My first seven

Williams
Mariota
Winston
Fowler
Cooper
Beasley
White

I only did top 6 as that's where we pick but if I had to add a 7th, I probably take gurley over Beasley. Beasley has more questions in my mind.

If by some miracle, Mariota is there,.draft him. No ifs ands or buts.

If he's gone, a trade down might be in order but IMO no further than the Midgets at 9

Everyone always wants to trade down and the logic is undeniable, but it's hard to do. It takes two to tango - maybe if Williams or Mariotta slips to us or someone has a man crush on one of the WRs

I read that too...and they have 5 picks in the first 80 selections, so they are a prime candidate to move up. The report is Ryan and Co love Beasely's fit for their system and are looking to move up.

Also, Im not worried about the two to tango argument. The Vikings, Browns, Bears, and Phins are trying to come up for WR and the Saints and Falcons will be looking at getting their OLB...we're in the perfect position to field calls for whoever falls...

if no one wants to trade, we take the top WR or OLB...not sure how we lose...

I wouldn't trade Vic Beasley for the Saints 1st and a 2nd under any circumstances

And why would anyone trade up for a WR when they can likely sit tight and get a good one?

Mariotta, Williams, yes, those are primo targets for someone but they will be gone. MAYBE someone loves Cooper or White enough to move up a few slots.

In my humble opinion, trading out of #37 is a much more viable option

Thats the difference between fantasy and real life.

You and I say they stay at 14 and get a good WR...NFL scouts for teams say these 3 fit our system, these 3 will take longer to develop and fit out system.

You may think Parker and Perriman are = prospects, Miami may feel Parker is more polished (true), can start day 1 (true), and fits their system better (for them to decide).

just because we feel they are =, doesnt mean they are truly equal.

As another example, last year at this time fans like us were saying silly things like Lee and beckham were =. You could make the same argument last year, why over draft beckham when you could stay put and get Lee?

Now how silly do teams (and fans should but they dont) feel that felt Lee and Beckham were equal quality prospects?

if you want Beckham, you trade up and get him...you dont stay put and settle for Lee...that's what gets you fired. Ask idzik.

If the Saints love Beasely..and he would be even more dynamic on their field surface and what Ryan brings...why wouldnt they? they have an extra second to deal..and if we can move down 6 spots and get another top 50 player on their board..I think its a no brainer for Jets. that gives you the freedom to take a Hundley or Petty in second and another guy if they want......I guess the whole caveat is what Jets think of Beasely....

...and if they dont trade up for Beasely...they have to pick between Gregory, Ray, and Dupree. We assume they value them the same...i have a hard time believing they feel Beasely, Ray, Gregory, and Dupree are =...that's why they would trade up.

I said in a different thread this is not the year the Jets should be trading down. As much as I like Maccagnan he is a 1st year GM with no track record in the draft. He should be making pics with as many quality players on the board as possible and not playing a what if guessing game by moving down.

As much as I was on Tannys case for always trading up I would almost prefer that to trading down. Although I prefer us to just pick in our normal turn. Let Maccagnan branch out next year once he has some experience and a track record.
