It HAS to be Bryce Petty today, right? I think he's better than anyone currently on our roster. Hundley is a possibility but I don't think he is as good as Geno so that doesn't excite me.

Maybe Jay Ajayi (sp?) is the pick at RB, but that doesn't seem like a great fit. We need a speed back, in my opinion and he's really not that.

Maybe an OL? Clemmings has dropped like a rock and I think he could step right in at guard or right tackle and help this team this season.

I want the QB though. At least with Petty, it gives me some hope that he can one day be that guy.

I could not agree more. With all the moves the Jets have made on offense and defense, i still havent been pumped like i usually am for a season knowing Geno is still the QB. A completely deflating feeling.

Though as you said, with a guy like Petty and what he brings with his upside, can generate the right amount of energy to provide a glimpse of hope to build for the future.

i'd like to see petty, clemmings*, or tre jackson

* - reports are clemmings has a stress fracture in his foot which probably explains his fall. think i heard them saying this morning that it may be something that isn't correctable via surgery (although i kind of overheard the convo, so don't quote me on that part)

Mayock said last night that teams are questioning Petty's ability to process information which is why he's still available. I've got news for anyone who wants Petty............. if we draft him, Geno/Fitzpatrick is still going to be our qb in 2015. Maybe 2016 too.

I did like Marcus a lot yes. I see a lot of similarities between the two, but IMHO, I honestly feel Petty has a higher ceiling. He's built like Jim Kelly. He's a leader on and off the field. Demonstrates a high character profile. He has a stronger arm than Marcus, and at this moment probably wants to showcase the world everyone made a mistake by not drafting him.

Don't get me wrong, both players will be projects of course, but with Mariota, the pressure will be tumultuous.
There will be no wait time for him to be groomed. Had we selected him, it would have been an almost identical situation that we had with Geno Smith. Thrown to the wolves and pray for the best while our patience runs thin every time a re-run mistake occurs.
I feel with Petty, he will sit and watch and learn until he gets his shot ala Aaron Rodgers. The talent is there.

Maybe teams are scared off because of the system he came from, hence the slide. Which is a form of a spread. IMHO, its a perfect fit for Gaileys offense. Plus it lights a fire under Geno's ass to be more consistent as he MUST prove this new regime he's the guy.

I do think there are similarities between the two. I preferred guys like Mannion and Grayson, as they are both more pro-ready, but I liked Mariota, and I think Petty is somewhat similar.

With all due respect, #7 has shown no ability to process information for two very long seasons
