No surprise there! Congrats Marcus!

Has there ever been two QBs in the draft that are former Heisman winners?

Oregon quarterback Marcus Mariota won the Heisman Trophy on Saturday in New York, becoming the first Hawaii native and the first Ducks player to receive the award as college football’s most outstanding player.

Wisconsin running back Melvin Gordon and Alabama wide receiver Amari Cooper were the other finalists.

Mariota, a redshirt junior from Honolulu, led Oregon to a 12-1 record, the Pacific-12 Conference championship and the No. 2 seed in the College Football Playoff. He accounted for 53 total touchdowns and had only two interceptions.

Oregon will face No. 3 Florida State in the Rose Bowl on Jan. 1 for a chance to play for the national championship.

Gordon ran for 2,336 yards on 309 carries and scored 26 rushing touchdowns during the season, and Cooper had 115 receptions for 1,656 yards and 14 touchdowns.

Does Mariota in the New York market scare anyone else? I'm not questioning his play on the field but what I'm concerned about is if we draft him will he be able to handle the New York fans, media, and spotlight? I could be completely way off with this outsider assessment but just watching him at the Heisman ceremony and other interviews recently it seems like he is almost too soft spoken and doesn't exude that take charge leadership mentality/quality needed in a QB. I felt nervous for him last night as he looked like a deer in headlights. I actually thought he was going to throw up at times. Reports mention that he is almost too quiet and needs to become more of a vocal leader for his team. Apparently that is something he has worked on and is getting better at.

How will this type of personality at the QB position do in the NFL being the leader of grown men with huge egos?

There is no doubt he is a good kid who is very humble. He is someone I would love the Jets to get but I'm not sure how he'll react to the negativity this market will bring since it seems like it has been all smooth sailing for him at Oregon up to this point.

Maybe I'm just being too crazy or too harsh on Mariota but it is something that concerns me a bit.

thoughts?

it doesn't matter sometimes the strongest leaders and most successful people in NY have been silent.

I don't think NY will eat him up because I think they will recognize how hard he works and see him progress the opposite of geno oh and he really is a smart QB.

I agree. He seems like a smart, good kid.
