Report: 2015 Could be Brick's Last Season as a Jet

I have the Jets picking Peat OT Stanford in my mock...I do believe the Jets have their eyes on him after trying to trade back a few slots. Interesting this would come out today...even if from Mehta. Ultimately, I think jets try to keep him a Jet for life and restructure, but wont be shocked if they add his replacement this year.

D'Brickashaw Ferguson - T - Jets
The New York Daily News' Manish Mehta believes Jets LT D'Brickashaw Ferguson's "future beyond 2015 could be in serious jeopardy."
Ferguson will turn 32 late this season and has been the Jets' left tackle since being selected fourth overall in the 2006 draft. He carries an $11.699 million cap hit this season and is scheduled to count $14.107 million against the cap in 2016. Ferguson was PFF's No. 35 tackle last year. The Jets are said to "have an affinity" for Stanford OT Andrus Peat, who could be Ferguson's heir.

I can definitely see this happening. Brick is one the top ten Jets OL of all-time and it's kinda sad....but he's not going to be worth anywhere near that kind of $. Peat would be a wise selection, it's not the glamorous one.

I give you credit on this one, 55. You have advocated LT at #6 since the early days of draft talk. I now think it is a legitimate possibility, along with OLB, WR, and RB.

I break down the odds like this:

OLB- 40%
OT- 25%
WR- 25%
RB- 10%

my heart says WR my head says OT...i do think pass rushers are less valued in Bowles system because he plays so much nickel and dime...but Thompson if he makes it to 37 or McKinney may have the Jets grab some help in the pass rushing area later on. I know McKinney is listed at MLB, but reports are jets have worked him out 3 times and all 3 times at OLB. Thompson is a Davis OLB Panthers clone that I think is a hybrid that fits what Bowles does well in his pass rush and coverage abilities.

It will be interesting, that's for sure.

BPA! Ferguson and Mangold are not getting any younger and we really have not addressed the OL with solid talent except for FA. I would not be surprised if that's the direction we go.

I just can't get on board using such a high pick on someone who could potentially be a backup for a few more years.

Next year we'll (hopefully) have a lower pick, which might line up with getting a stud OL at a more reasonable price. That's a chance I'm willing to take, versus "wasting" a high pick that we'll (hopefully) not own again for a long time . . .

Agreed, when you draft this high, I would generally look toward and impact skill position first

Just a thought, but Peat could play RT in year one, allowing Breno to slide inside. Now you have a line of:

Brick-Carpenter-Mangold-Breno-Peat

Would be much improved over last year. Can Peat play RT? How would the run blocking be on the right side? Some questions there but it would be much improved over 2014.

I like your thinking Superman, I also have the Jets taking Pete in our mock draft challenge. However I have us trading down a bit and selecting him. I think that OL is always a good way to go.

I also love the value an OLman brings as compared to an outside linebacker. At the number six pack, taking an offense of line man who is productive could last 10 years or more. Comparing that to other positions it's never a bad idea to select OL

I agree with you as I would rather get one of the top WR's or OLB's. There is still that possibility at looking to protect Geno or get a solid road grader for the running game. I would love the Jets to find a trade partner and trade back a few spots while adding extra picks. What happens if Cooper fell in our laps? Most on here would go crazy if we traded out with him there.

I think you can possibly get a future LT in Fisher or Humphries either later in 1st with trade down or at 37. To me that would be ideal, and perhaps a bit of a pipe dream.

Come on, enough with this crap. People have been trying to get rid of him for years now.

Lineman play well into there 30's, he has NEVER missed a game, and still plays well. LTs are very hard to find and they cost money. Yes he has a big cap number but he is worth it and we can afford it.

Not a single OT in this draft truly worthy of being in the TOP 10.... I do not want to reach at #6 . If Mac is true to say we take BPA an OT isn't happening RD 1.... unless we trade down

Not only do I agree with this statement but let me add he has also been playing with a Terrible G next to him for the last 3 years. Which you may notice he cheats inside a lot to help them.... Solidify the G spot and then see where Brick is at... He still has2-3 solid years left

This is why I'm hoping Donovan Smith or Jake Fisher slides to us in RD 2

I like Smith more, but either one is a rock solid potential replacement for Brick.

In the meantime they can give us an upgrade at RT

+1 agree. Our 6th or 1st rounder has to start day 1. Plus Brick is a Long Island local kid that will re-negotiate his current deal. I hope he's a Jet unril he retires like Mango.

Breno Mini-mi cannot play inside.
Waist bender with zero ability to get leverage underneath.

If we stay at 6

And Winston Mariota Williams Cooper Fowler go 1-5.

IMO, we will not trade down and will select White or Beasley at 6

Happy with either

If any of the elite 5 are still there
