BOSTON (CBS) — The Patriots did not add a cornerback until the final round of last week’s NFL Draft, and this week they’re cutting one from the roster.

According to NFL Network’s Ian Rapoport, the Patriots will release cornerback Alfonzo Dennard.

Dennard, 25, was drafted by the Patriots in the seventh round of the 2012 draft, after charges for assaulting a police officer caused him to slide down from his expected second-round draft slot. He ended up playing in 10 games for the Patriots as a rookie, making three interceptions, one forced fumble and 35 tackles. The following summer, however, Dennard was arrested on suspicion of DUI in Lincoln, Neb.

Dennard would play 10 games in the 2013 season before serving his jail sentence in the offseason that followed.

Last year, Dennard played in six games for New England, intercepting one pass and making 15 tackles.

The move, combined with the offseason departures of Darrelle Revis and Brandon Browners, leaves the Patriots with a number of question marks at the cornerback position.

Who will play corner? May need to bring back Tim Brown from retirement to help out.

My opinion is that something bad was found out about this guy and the Pats can no longer employ him. Another con on the Pats.

Love it. Marshall, Decker, Smith, and Amaro running into this secondary. Let's hope whoever is throwing it can take advantage.

Plus it would be great for him to be in at dime in week 7 and be there to pick off a wobbler released by Tammy just after being smashed into by the Big Cat and take it to the house

..... if Revis believes his Patriot teammate of last year can help the JETS ..... He will be here in a heartbeat.

I just don't understand this. What are the Pats doing? Basically, they have decided to make McCourty, who was so good at CB they made him a safety, as their entire secondary.

Revis? Browner? Dennard?
