Milliner/McDougle Status?

Maybe if our former stubborn HC didn't put Milliner out there last year against the Packers without even going through a walk through(and putting him on Jordy Nelson no less), playing him after that without being able to practice a full week, his high ankle sprain could've healed properly and his body would've been in football shape. That might have prevented that achilles tendon tear. Now, we'll never know, but Ryan has a history of putting players on the field who aren't physically able to perform(like playing Cro on one hip in 2013). Let's see Milliner fully healthy with a competent coaching staff before we write him off.

And after only two seasons in the league having been drafted 9th overall. You admittedly say he has played in approximately 16 games in two seasons. He became a Jet while injured and his injury situation cost him time in TC to learn the professional game. So once he gets back, he's terrible and hardly sees any action because he's such a liability.

At the end of his rookie season he had ONE good game IMO against a hapless Miami Dolphins team. So everyone has high hopes for him going into his 2nd season (including myself), and what does he do?

He quickly gets injured in TC and misses time. When he finally gets back in the season he very quickly ruptures his Achilles tendon and is shelved yet again to injury.

THIS all the while he was NINTH overall in the 2013 draft.

Now you still tap on the computer stroking his bravery, willingness to play through injuries, his great play, etc.

Is there anything else that I am missing? Does that completely cover this man love you have for him?

I have officially reached the twilight zone!?

Dee Milliner playing in only HALF of the games he should have played in, being injured frequently, being benched for poor or ineffective play while you are the NINTH overall pick constitutes a BUM.

It constitutes a BUST of colossal proportions. Whether you choose to acknowledge it or not, if you are asking ANY NFL fan that isn't a Jets fan obviously:rolleyes: if the Jets selection of Dee Milliner was worth it?

They would ALL tell you given he has played in only 16 games? That would be considered a BUST and super miss in the top 10.

So,in 2013 a rookie CB plays in 13 games has 56 total tackles,17 passes defensed and 3 interceptions. Is that hardly seeing any action? Missing time in training would hurt a rookie learning the pro game. So in a sense he was learning during the regular season had some tough games gets benched to regroup. He's a rookie. Continues to learn and grow but still has some hiccups and rides the pine. Starts to come around towards the end of the year where the last few games he is good enough to win rookie player of the month, which is more than one good game.
Last year he injures his knee. IMO, he was having a very good preseason. The Jets CB situation was so dire Rex rushes him back too early. He was clearly favoring his injured knee against Green Bay and i believe that caused him to injure his achilles. I ,for one, would like to see a healthy Milliner play to really gauge if he isn't any good or not. If he cannot get/stay healthy and isn't on the field then he would be a waste of the 9th overall pick.

Oh god, I love this. Blame it on Rex because he's been fired and you wouldn't dare criticize dear Milliner.

Rex played Milliner because HE HAD TO. Rex was well aware that our secondary sucked and needed his best to be at their best.

First of all, saying Milliner is the best on the team, given his history, is a joke. It puts a little context to just how bad our secondary truly was.

Second of all, what did dear Milliner do with that chance? He sh*t the bed, just so you know.

He was asked to step up and he could not meet the inquiry.

Yeah, it must be Rex's fault.

You seem to hold everyone to a much higher standard than you do Rex. JMHO but you have a blind eye when it comes to him. I think it is fair to criticize if it is done even handed. I don't see that in this situation.

Why did he have to play Milliner? He had cb's. Now, they couldn't play his scheme effectively, but, we all saw the secondary stabilize once Ryan switched to playing cover 2. Ryan was too stubborn to do this early on. He took a poor cb situation and compounded the issue due to his stubborness. He cost us games, just like he did when we were on offense in Green Bay and MM is feverishly trying to talk to him on the headset, but Rex has the dial switched to Thurman and they're discussing what to do when the Packers go back on offense. Ryan had no idea what was going on. Like I mentioned in another thread, I wanted Ryan gone after reading Collision Low Crossers(great book........ not a lot of pictures........ no pictures of Rex's feet........ but if you like to read...............). He was in over his head as a HC. His act was good with a strong veteran locker room in 2009/2010, but as those vets left, Ryan's act wore thin. Milliner may or may not end up being worthy of his draft selection. Time will tell. However, the only young players to develop under Ryan's watch were defensive lineman, and I believe that Karl Dunbar was most responsible for that. Milliner finished his rookie season strong, suffered a high ankle sprain in camp in year two, then had his coach rush him back and torpedo his sophomore season.

There's plenty of criticism that I have for Rex. However, no one in their right mind cold possibly think last season was anything more than Rex taking the fall for the misdeeds of the owner.

No such excuse available Dee Milliner. Every time this guy has seen the field, it is short lived.

See my last post on the previous page. Ryan had options, and he exercised them, but he waited too long.

Ridiculous. This is all in your mind. Rex ALWAYS did the best with what God gave him. Rex's best was far better than idiots like Herm and Mangini. Dee milliner could have stepped up and accepted the challenge and played through that injury. Instead, he got injured far worse.

Vinny Testaverde...another Jet "bum" who "could have stepped up and accepted the challenge and played through that torn Achilles" Dennis Byrd probably too with his minor twinge??

Right Mainejet??

This X 2. Rex is not a head coach. He's a very good DC who loves the adulation and attention of being a head coach. I cannot think of one offensive player who improved every year under his "watch". And what he did to Milliner was criminal. When he handed the starting cb job to Milliner without making him earn it set the kid up for failure. Same with Pryor. And the way he handled Milliner's injury was just plain stupid. Rex's act will wear thin in Buffalo. Give it 3-4 yrs.

I gave up right around the part where it was said "Rex Ryan was victimized by decisions by Woody" and "Dee Milliner is a colossal bust".

Sometimes I think that a certain poster's geographical moniker is an indication who he/she really roots for. Some of the posts are so juvenile or ridiculous, it makes you wonder about allegiance or whether they are on some serious medication.

Obviously, all of you are in love with Milliner. Good luck with that. We will have to agree to disagree.

But when it comes to McDougle I would expect to hear crickets? This guy could just as easily be another Idzik bum and by the looks of things he IS that at least so far.

I agree. Everyone on the Jets is a bum. At least that's what I read in the Portland and Boston papers and on local sports radio up here in Maine

Depends on your perspective. If you're the type of person who just throws players in the garbage can because of a season ending injury, then yes. But if you've got the patience to let it play out a little more, then no. I'm sure nobody in Jax is throwing Dante Fowler in the garbage can because of his injury, or even referring to him as a "bum".

out of curiousity, is donte fowler a bum? he's already out for his first season, so by your definition he's a bum. perhaps not coincidentally, idzik is now with the jags...
