Jaguars hire former Jets G.M. John Idzik to full-time position

Maybe now all the people who went to the Tim Tebow rally in Jacksonville can divert their attention to buying airplane banners.

Because the Jaguars have hired a man who created far more of a grassroots effort among his former fanbase.

According to Ryan O’Halloran of the Florida Times-Union, the Jaguars have hired former Jets General Manager John Idzik to a full-time position with the team.

Idzik was hired by the Jaguars as an consultant prior to free agency. His new title is special assistant to the G.M. (apparently assistant to the traveling secretary was taken).

“He’ll do a little bit of everything,” Jags G.M. Dave Caldwell said. “He’s a great cultural fit for us. He has a great understanding of the salary cap and the different ways to do a contract.”

Idzik was fired by the Jets after the 2014 season, but not before he became a lightning rod for fans, complete with planes bearing “Fire John Idzik” banners flying over practices there.

The Jaguars also promoted Chris Polian from director of pro personnel to director of player personnel and Chris Driggers from pro scout to director of pro personnel.

Idzik is a cap specialist who never should have been a GM. They hired him for that, as you can see from his title...

Good riddance...

Personally, I don't think Idzik ever got a fare shot with the Jets. Woody had control of the check book not Idzik. He was set up to crash & burn with Rex, so Woody could clean house and get the fans off his a$$ !!!!? I wish him good-luck in Jacksonville. Don't get me wrong, I love MaccBowles.

Hope this doesn't offend anyone but Jacksonville is like the Mississippi of the NFL. They are the ones you point to and say "at least we're not them"

It's good to see Idzik land on his feet and get employment. Just so long as that employment was NOT with the NYJ. The guy obviously has talents or else he would not be front office positions for as long as he has.

It is my opinion that his press conference half way through the season last year was a fake as anything I have ever seen. When he cried speaking in that press conference, it appeared to me like he was acting. That just told me that it didn't matter to him. He may have been sad because he knew he'd lose his job if he didn't put on a good acting job, but not because the Jets sucked. He enjoyed being in NY and getting the big, fat paycheck, but he didn't take an emotional interest in the team.

So even though his career pretty much started in NY, he didn't feel like the NYJ were his team. He just liked NY and that's where it ended for him.

I think the bottom line for Idzik was that he's a guy who is good at aspects of the GM job - cap and such - but not capable or prepared for the full set of tasks

That might've been true before, but not anymore. I'll bet the Jets wish they had Blake Bortles right about now.

Its the best thing Woody has ever done for the Jets. Getting Bowles will hopefully be the right staff fro this team to win a SB.
