Chat Feature

Do you guys want me to download a chat feature? It would work similar to facebook's chat and even allows you to link your facebook friends to it and chat with them straight from the site. It comes with games and the ability to have a live chat room, file transfer, screen sharing.

Good thing is that it uses the site's friend request feature so only poeple that are your friends can message you. I only have one friend on here [MENTION=45]jetgreen13[/MENTION] and I think I did that by accident. Not sure what the friend feature actually does lol.

I have three concerns with this but I like the idea and may be worth a shot. If it fails we can always take it down. My three concerns are as follows:

1. I don't want the forum to die out Bc poeple are having their personal jets talk back and forth.
2. Not sure if it will slow down the site at all. I've read it doesn't but we are not on our own server so it could eat up resources.
3. Not sure how it looks on mobile phones and iPhones, if at all.

With the amount of heated discussions that turn in a negative way, would you have the resources to have it manned at all times? Otherwise could get ugly at times.

Thnx. I think we would be okay because you would only be chatting with your "friend". Users will be able to block certain people and close out of the chat completely.

Personally I don't think I would use it. I read a lot more than I post. But I think there are a few professional filibusters that post here, may be of interest to them.

Guys it is not a chat room and it is good if you want some real live conversation. Or if you want to get someone's attention real quick you don't have to tell them to check their pm. In my experience with it does not take away from the site at all.

ucr, is it a shout box that appears at the top of the page, which operates like a small chat room?

If thats it, they use it at the other site where I post and its pretty cool, but they don't make it visible in the main football forum so it doesn't annoy people there. Its active in all of the other forums, off topic etc., any other forum you go to, but its deactivated in the football forum and that works perfectly, it doesn't clog up the football forum, but its easily accessible by just going to any other forum.

Just a heads up if thats the feature you have in mind.

yeah something like that but this one is more private like elis said you cn only talk to people who have you as friends. I am hoping it will allow you to conversate with more than one person at a time like facebook does where you can bring people in that would be cool.

It's not a shout box and honestly I wouldn't want a shoutbox because I've seen that take away from the boards. I like the idea that it's not on the main board but honestly we only have one board with any real action.

Think of this as an instant messenger platform.

Alright guys, appreciate the feedback. I've decided to install this thing and should be done by this afternoon.

I would love it if you guys let me know if you experience any issues with the site when this thing goes live. I am extremely concerned that our server resources are going to be eaten up event though the developers say it's not.

If you experience any slowness please let me know. It will be a google chat/facebook chat-like bar at the bottom that is easily minimized if you guys find it a problem.

For that person to appear available on your chat bar, he will need to accept your friend request on here. So those that hate each other will not need to be worried about getting spammed.

It also has some cool games, both single player and multi-player games that you guys can spend some time on instead of killing each other over Geno/Fitz.

I hope there's a poker feature. would be fun to play some poker!

This is now installed and I will need someone to test it with me. If you're around and have some time over the next few days to just message your fellow users, that would be much appreciated.

Play around with the games and messaging system.

In a few days, I will limit the chat to only friends. There is supposed to be a facebook feature on here but I don't see it.....

I was just conversing with the chat it is really effective and I think it could be a huge addition. You can talk real time now and you don't have to navigate away from the main forum like you do pm's. For those that don't want to have the chat you can just keep it minimized and it is not intrusive at all. I think you can even disable the sound notifications if someone messaged you. This is great for those that browse at work.

click on settings on the chat box and you can turn pop up and sound notifications off
