Antonio Cromartie says Richard Sherman nowhere close to being the best corner in the NFL

Cromartie probably means Earl Thomas and Kam Chancellor. He also didn’t stop there, claiming that Sherman isn’t worthy of even being mentioned among the top corners in the NFL. Cromartie doesn’t think he’s earned it, and had no problem talking about it.
From ESPN:

“Go follow the No. 1 receiver. Follow him around for a whole entire game and let’s see what you can do. Darrelle Revis has done that his whole career. I’ve done that. Patrick Peterson has done it. Joe Haden has done it. [Sherman] is the only defensive back that hasn’t. If you want to label yourself as the No. 1 corner, the best corner in the NFL, follow the best guy on every single team.”

To Cromartie’s end, Sherman does tend to play on one side of the defense. Cromartie also predicted Sherman’s counterpoint, and knocked that down just as hard.

“His [response] will be, ‘We don’t have to do that, I have my trust in the other corner on the other side. That’s not the point. If you’re going to consider yourself the best, do what the best do. They follow around the best.”

He's absolutely right, but I don't know if Revis has returned to that point, as bellicheat also moved Revis around the field last year.

I think it was 2009 when Revis had to defend the murderers row of the best active receivers for like 6 weeks straight, ending with back to back weeks of Chad Johnson for a total of 1 catch in 2 games.

I disagree, without stories like this we'd be forced to do something desperate, like watch hockey.

Read a book..go to the movies....Its a stupid unneeded story..maybe Antonio should strive to be better than SHERMAN HIMSELF and work

He makes a fair point, but he's not the person who should be making it because he's not in Sherman's class.

If someone like Revis or Pat Peterson made the point it would be given a lot more weight.

I predict Sherman will simply dismiss Cromartie as his inferior, and sadly he will be right, but Crow invited it.

Unless I'm mistaken, Cromartie was simply answering a question he was asked. Do we really expect him (or any other professional athlete) to say "I'm not worthy of answering that -- go ask someone better than me". We already agree he gave the correct answer, so why are we saying he shouldn't have?

Now, if he went on an unprovoked Twitter attack, that would be different. But I love how we always bash the one giving the "stupid answer" yet always give a free pass to the one baiting the athlete into giving that answer in the first place.

And we wonder why Marshawn treats the media the way he does . . .

Can't argue this at all. Cro has been there and done that. In San Diego I'm guessing he did, with the Jets he did. Especially when Revis was gone that year or when he was injured with us. The other corners he mentioned has as well but Sherman hasn't. So how can he consider himself or anyone call him the best. Yes he will say he plays the defense his team calls to play but that's neither here nor there. If your not guarding the best WR each and every play (or at least 75% of the plays) no matter where he is playing on the field, then you can't consider yourself the best.

Its no different then the twitter war Sherman had with Revis some years back. Sherman points weren't valid at all IMO. Yes he had more ints then Revis but of course he would if he's only playing one side of the field and guarding the 3rd and 4th best WRs on the field. We must remember that teams will move their receivers all over the field. So sometimes the 2nd best WR may be playing the slot and #1 guy will be on the opposite side of Sherman. Which leaves Sherman guarding some Jo-Smo that we and he may have never even heard of. While Revis is following C. Johnson, L. Fitzgerald, J. Jones, S. Smith, D. Bryant etc-etc all over the field on every down. IMO, Sherman made himself seem real small arguing with Revis over something he had no leverage to do so.

HYATT™ is reminded of 2 salient points.
1.) Cro played pretty damn well for an old geezer in AZ last year, in case anyone missed his resurgent comeback season from the severe debilitating hip injury during all of 2013.
Cromartie has intercepted at least three passes in each season since joining the Jets in 2010.
The only other cornerbacks with three or more interceptions in each season during that span are DeAngelo Hall and Charles Tillman.
Richard Sherman is decidedly NOT on that list, though he does have 24 INTs since he came into the league in 2011 & PROBABLY would be on it if he had been around in 2010 too - because he faces INFERIOR WRs a lot of the time in SEA's zone schemes.

2.) There was a period in time when many of the things being said about Richard Sherman were being said about Scrabble, (Nnamdi Asomugha), and HYATT™ fought a years-long battle - complete with charts and diagrams - proving Scrabble wasn't REALLY all that, outside of one stellar year (2006) in OAK.
Which of course, everyone absolutely refused to believe, (hey now, I TOL' YA SO !!)

In TRUTH, Scrabble only had 2 seasons out of his 11 NFL years, (8 in 2006 & 3 in 2011) that he managed to intercept more than 1 ball & in only 3 of them did he even defend double-digit passes, (14 in 2005, 11 in 2006, & 12 in 2012).
Beyond those stats, he never defended more than 7 passes in a single season.
The REASON Scrabble was deceiving fans into believing he was a top CB is because QBs and OCs were buffaloed into beliving it and never TESTED him.
Being thrown at 24 or 34 times a season is NOT much of a test when Darrelle MEvis is being targeted over 120 times in the same year and maintaining a QB rating of under 40 against him.
That same year, 2009, Scrabble's QB rating against was close to 100, (mid-90s), even though he was only targeted a couple handful of times in the entire season.

Much like Scrabble, QBs and OCs are snowballed by Sherman's big mouth into believing he can stop anything - even with one bad wing.
Aaron Rodgers and Mike McCarthy wouldn't even call his number in the 2nd half of the NFCC game last year in SEA, when Sherman CLEARLY was all but wearing a splint and sling for 1.5 quarters at the end of the game.
THAT, my friends, is the power of a MYTH.

This is just Cromartie sticking up for his teammates/bros (Revis and Peterson) and also playing in the NFC west I'm sure he had a rivalry with Sherman. To say Sherman is not up there with Revis, Peterson and Haden is just not correct IMO. I don't care who Sherman plays against he defends his guy well doesn't give up many touchdowns and has more interceptions than anyone over the last 3 years (20). They all may have different strengths and I'd probably take Revis because I think he's the best at one-on-one but anyone of them are top five guys. BTW - I'd easily throw Vontae Davis in with that group..
