NFL player Eric Decker to fly with the USAF Thunderbirds
Posted July 14th, 2015

Eric Decker, NFL wide receiver for the New York Jets, is scheduled to fly with the USAF Thunderbirds aerial demonstration team here Friday, July 17.

The Thunderbirds host a celebrity flight program in communities throughout the United States during their air show season. The program is designed to highlight individuals who have sacrificed time and effort in support of our servicemen and women.

Decker was selected for this honor based upon his efforts in support of our military service members.

The Eric & Jessie Decker Foundation, through its fundraising efforts and community outreach, strives to positively impact the lives of United States military service members and veterans as well as animals. EJDF is committed to the service of those who have served us via Decker’s Dogs, which helps fund the rescue, care and training of service dogs for military veterans returning home with disabilities.

Decker will receive a one-hour Thunderbird orientation flight in one of the world’s premiere fighter jets — the Lockheed Martin F-16D. Celebrity flights are not a reward for an individual’s actions. The program is a way to showcase American people doing amazing things in their communities, in line with the amazing efforts put forth by America’s Airmen every day.

Media interested in covering this event should report to the main gate on Lockport Road at 8 AM where you will be escorted to cover pre-flight training with Eric Decker for his orientation flight scheduled for 10:30 AM. Post-flight interviews will be available at 11:45 AM.

Keep up with the 914th by visiting us at www.niagara.afrc.af.mil or following us on Facebook and Twitter (914thAirliftWing).

The Thunderbirds come every other summer to the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard in Kittery, Maine. I work there and they are always allowed to fly over the shipyard. Others get shot down. That's how serious it could be for someone flying over without permission. Anyway, I am hoping that they'll be at the yard after this show. It really is awesome. They fly barely over the buildings completely down the dry docks and make freaky aerial maneuvers. Everyone always comes out of the building just to watch them fly over.
