Can the Jets make the playoffs in head coach Todd Bowles' first season (and his first season as a head coach, period)?
Even though training camp hasn't even begun — players report on July 29 — predictions are already rolling out about how 2015 might unfold for the Jets.
PLUS: Jets' Damon Harrison 'devastated' by Sheldon Richardson suspension, expects line to be fine
And the prognostications published by WalterFootball.com aren't exactly positive for Bowles' team, for what that is worth. (Nothing, really, since they're just predictions.)
The website picks the Jets to finish last in the AFC East, with a 5-11 record (one win better than last year). Here's a longer explanation:
The Jets overachieved last year, winning four games when they were projected to have just two victories. They had one of the least-talented rosters in recent memory, but Rex Ryan was able to get the most out of his team. Ryan is now gone, so that will no longer happen, but New York's roster is at least better right now. Still, the Jets are the only team in the AFC East that doesn't have a chance to win the division this year.
Not a lot of confidence there in Bowles, eh? Considering Bowles has never been a head coach before, it's really impossible to say how he would handle the ever-important task of getting the most out of his team.
Look, with the Patriots still going strong, it is reasonable to say the Jets probably won't win the AFC East — and that they're hoping for a wildcard spot in the playoffs. But 5-11 is a very pessimistic projection for their season.
What do you think, gang? Do the Jets really have no chance to win the AFC East? Are they looking at a 5-11 season? Or something better than that? Or worse?
Leave your thoughts down there in the comments.
