If this is true Idzik must go too

SBNation -- It's no secret that Rex Ryan is on the coaching hot seat for the New York Jets. With a current 2-9 record and the lack of a winning season since 2010, Ryan is well aware he's coaching for his job week to week, and admitted that the Jets are "out of tomorrows" after the team's latest loss -- a blowout to the Buffalo Bills -- on Monday night. But according to a report from the New York Post, firing Rex Ryan has been the plan all season long.
General manager John Idzik has reportedly made no secret of his plan to get rid of Ryan since the beginning of the season, per Mark Cannizaro of the Post:

Sources told The Post that, during the offseason, Ryan bumped into scouts and other coaches from around the league who told him Jets general manager John Idzik had been telling people his plan all along was to replace Ryan after the season and bring in his own head coach.

"Did he think that wasn't going to get back to me?" an angered Ryan told one confidant.
Ryan has a career record of 44-47 in his six-year tenure as head coach of the Jets. He excelled early with two straight AFC Championship appearances and holds a career 4-2 playoff record. Unfortunately, the Jets have been a mess at quarterback and face a significant lack of talent in key positions, including a complete mess in the secondary.
It doesn't help that Idzik has kept the Jets among the league's thriftiest teams in the NFL. Even after the trade for wide receiver Percy Harvin from Seattle, the Jets are still third in the league with over $15.4 million in salary cap room.
According to the Post report, Ryan has plans to leave coaching in the immediate future for a job in television after the season. It seems that everyone knows exactly what they are going to do even if it hasn't been made official.

How is he supposed to coach a team knowing this all season?

Wow. Idzik is truly terrible at the way he conducts business. His job is definitely not safe and at this point, I hope he gets canned. I originally felt bad because it's only his second year and the first year was a wash considering he had to fix Tanny's mess.

But the way he handled free agency by not calling back agents when he was not interested in (re)acquiring their clients was terrible and this may be worse. Who would want to come play or coach for Idzik if he is so unprofessional.

Having said that, Rex had plenty of time to mold the Jets in his image but we continue for the last three years now to have no identity. We lost the swagger we had in 09 and 10 and our offense has been the worst for some time now. We give him a p*** for it but ultimately he is the head coach and had say in hiring these offensive coaches. Sparano was his pick claiming their offensive philosophy was mirror image of each other. Marty went against what Rex believed in by being p*** happy. Rex may be one of our best coaches in our history but he had some flaws and the GM should be aware of those and build a team to hide those. Not everyone is perfect. As a result, they both should get fired. If I had to choose one though, idzik should be the one to go. He's terrible and has lost the team's fanbase in such a short time.

By the way, how brutal is the NY media? I knew it was bad but with Idzik, we've seen it at it's worse. We could single handedly blame them for everyone's venomous hate for our GM.

It is just such a mess and headed in the wrong direction. I would love to see the franchise sold at this point but that probably won't happen. Why did he ever agree to keep up the fiasco of the Meadowlands?, to save money because he is turning out to be a cheap skate. The whole idea of sharing a stadium is awful. The billionaire doesn't have enough billions and wants more.
Maybe the story is not true? Rex has definitely lost the team but it sure looks like Idzik is not a very good GM. Terrible drafting and terrible with the media. If the NY media is out to get you; they usually win out. I really liked Rex and wanted him to succeed but I agree that both should go.

Even worst, they wouldn't let Rex talk about his father Buddy. Idzik has to go. Actually they both should go, but Idzik first

Jets wouldn’t let Rex talk about Buddy’s health situation

Leave it to the Jets to be dysfunctional even in the process of disintegrating under the weight of dysfunction.

According to Manish Mehta of the New York Daily News, the Jets blocked coach Rex Ryan from talking to Mehta about a bye-week visit to his ailing father, legendary NFL defensive guru Buddy Ryan. Buddy, who rose to prominence as defensive coordinator of the ’85 Bears and then coached the Eagles and Cardinals, is battling cancer.

“Ryan was happy to discuss the visit, but a media relations official intervened presumably because of the News’ critical stories about Idzik,” Mehta wrote. “Asked who made the decision to prevent a willing Ryan from sharing stories about his father, the media relations official said, ‘I don’t have to tell you.'”

Mehta interprets the muzzling of Rex Ryan as proof positive that, once the season ends, Ryan will no longer be the team’s head coach. Apparently, the team fears that Rex would become more sympathetic in the eyes of the fan base if he’s dumped by the team at a time when his father is fighting a serious illness.

That sounds more than a little goofy, but why else would the Jets not let Ryan talk about his father, especially when his father is a famous former NFL coach?

The disclosure comes as part of a broader column in which Mehta goes all in against G.M. John Idzik, arguing that Idzik should be fired, too. Although an unlikely upset of the Steelers seemed to go a long way toward saving Idzik, a 35-point Monday night blowout loss to the Bills may have pushed the needle the other way.

With Ryan surely done, the question becomes whether he’ll win enough games down the stretch to save Idzik. If it was Idzik who gave the order to keep Rex from talking about Buddy, Rex should mail in the last five.
